1947 Packard 2126

THE LAST CLASSIC PACKARDThe 1947 Packard Custom Super Clipper 7-passenger limousine, body by Henney, is the last Packard to be recognized as a 'Classic' by the Classic Car Club of America (CCCA). It is therefore eligible for all CCCA tours and meets. The car began its long service as the private vehicle of the owner of the Packard Dealership in Syracuse, New York. In 1950 it was sold to a funeral home in Houston, Texas and served with great dignity in transporting the bereaved. In the late 1950's it was purchased by a collector and went into storage for 27 years. The fourth owner, a well known Packard collector on the west coast, then purchased the car and completed a total restoration for he and his wife to use for touring with various antique auto organizations on the west coast and desert southwest of the USA. It was the wife's favorite of the numerous Packards in their collection and upon her death, the owner retired the car to another 10 years of well-maintained storage. The car was purchased and brought to North Carolina by the current owner in 2020. It has been a dependable, comfortable and gorgeous automobile for use in personal day to day activities and auto club tours and meets. It is always shown with a mink coat and white, elbow length gloves draped casually across one of the jump-seats to add just the right touch of elegant class and penache.
The 1947 Packard is powered by a 9 main bearing straight eight engine which provides smooth effortless power for which Packard engines were always known. The 1990's restoration has held up very well and the car presents itself with a lovely two-tone paint scheme and a beautiful, correct wool broadcloth interior. The interior appointments are in excellent condition exhibiting beautiful wood graining on the garnish mouldings and very nice bright work all around to compliment the up-scale interior. The exterior chrome remains in very nice condition. The car is certainly not perfect but the high-quality restoration completed some time ago remains at a level for which the owner can be proud.
Recent maintenance includes installation of beautiful radial wide whitewalls less than three years ago. The radiator has just now been removed and cleaned and re-conditioned. The car runs quiet, smooth, cool and the oil pressure shows at the expected levels. The recent two one affect achieved by painting the middle of the hood, the roof and the rear deck has given the car a remarkable new look. This new dark blue paint needs to be rubbed out and some over-spray cleaned up. There are no rust issues of which I am aware.
