1949 Packard Eight Deluxe - 23rd series . This Packard is in overall "Good" condition utilizing the "Hagerty Condition Guide" criteria . The car runs very wel, and everything on and in the vehicle works and function, with the exception of the original "AM Radio". The car has a bend on the right front fende, some surface rust startin, and is in need of a repaint . The original interior is in very good condition . The original 288 CID in-line 8 cylinder engine runs very smoot, with no oil smoke . Equipped with a manual 3 speed transmissio, with an electrical assist overdrive feature . The car handles well for its ag, with no shimmy or wander while driving . Brakes work wel, after I adjusted to prevent pull to the right . Tires are vintage size and have good tread . The power plant is all original with the exception of an electric fuel pump that is activated by a hidden toggle switch under the dash . The electric fuel pump is mounted out of sight in the trun, so as to not distract from the cars originality . This Packard is a fine driver just the way it is . However, a repaint and attention given to a few other minor detail, would easily place this vintage Packard in a "Very Good" condition catagory . Making the car parade and movie lease ready .
The Packard advertisements in 1949 used the slogan " Just ask the man that owns one" . A very fitting slogan, indeed . Packard brings a level of pride and prestige in ownershi, that only higher end vehicles do .
