1968 Chevrolet Camaro Yenko RS/SS Deluxe interior

Survivor 1968 396/375 RS/SS Yenko Delivered Camaro as per the NCRS certification. Runs and drives. 60 psi oil pressure. No smoke! Original owner blew motor first couple weeks of ownership and had Yenko install a CE L-72 427 instead of the 396. He apparently did not want them to finish the full Yenko conversion due to the additional cost. So he only got the motor changed. Allegedly, she then went to Motion Performance to be completed but again, another story. For the knowledgeable here are the numbers for the engine: CE-427#439 which is the 1968 code. Casting date E-14-8 May 14, 1968. Completion date (starter pad) T078 which is July 1968. NCRS shows June 6th cowl tag creation. Original BU-373 Rear end, May 1968 with 3:55 posi but unsure of what is in there now. 840–K-27 matching date Square Port cylinder heads cast November 1967 which appear to have come with the long block. Carb is correct code dated 950 3 barrel Carb 83 22nd week March 1968 as is the OL-CUN radiator with tag. Vintage day two parts are headers, M/T valve covers, Edelbrock Intake, Fly eye air cleaner, ET Brute traction bars, Accel ignition and Lakewood scatter shield. The master cylinder (which needs to be rebuilt/replaced), booster and all of the other brake components are original 1968. Even the vacuum lines are ribbed as everything under the hoods is totally original. Between the block casting date, completion date and cowl tag creation there is a window of just 5 weeks. This is how the experts determined it was a Yenko installed CE motor. It would be easier to hit Lotto. It does not have the original transmission, shifter, doors and hood which were stolen. It does have a 1968 M20 Muncie 4 speed with a Hurst Ram Rod Shifter. She is Unrestored, running and could easily be put back on the road as a survivor which was my plan. Minimal rust and an easy fix. 17K Original Mileage. According to Yenko’s records, there are 43 and 45 VIN’s but no 44’s in their records. Was advised there were 6, missing 44 VIN 396/375 RS/SS Camaro’s and this seems to be one of them. Ultimately it was the motor stampings and getting back to the second owner’s brother that told the story or at least part of it. There is no doubt it was Yenko delivered. How did the 427 get in there? It’s explained above and is pretty clear. The 2nd owners brother whom we spoke to also confirmed the 427 warranty replacement. No full conversion. He left the 396 emblems on the side – to fool everyone. However, that’s where things change. I have a letter from Joel Rosen stating they did the work on the car. The brother of the 2nd owner claims his brother did the work. It has the original exhaust, all rubber hoses are original and ribbed. To get her back on the road, the radiator, gas tank, fuel and water pump were replaced. All the old original parts are in the trunk. Also, the master cylinder (which needs a rebuild) is original as is the proportioning valve and lines. Original color was Sequoia Green with a black vinyl top. The top has small signs of bubbling in the usual spots and I would leave it as part of the unrestored crusty look which is more my style. Deluxe Interior is spotless with AM/FM radio and wood steering wheel. Needs Sail panels, front carpet and fix the seam on the front drivers seat base to make her look like new. Perfect headliner. She has an A&A L-88 style Fiberglass scoop from 1960’s. What I do know she has certain MP specific items as per Joel Rosen’s letter. Who put them on the car is the question. It’s a real Yenko per NCRS with a Yenko installed 427. No doubt. Is it a real Motion Performance? Possibly. You be the judge. Hagerty 68, RS/SS Fair 92k. If Yenko tag 290k. Condition is much better than fair! She is remarkably solid and waiting for her new owner to get her back on the road.
