Description:

1964 Chevrolet Corvair

Here is a very rare 1964 Corvair Corvan 8-door van, one of 718 built. I bought in in 2003 and have used it on my property for transporting all the water pipe and electric pipe I needed to developed my land. I have never driven it on the road, only around my property. It has a 4 speed and rear air-cooled engine, not the original engine, has been changed out to a car engine. (No rear mounted oil check and filler tube.) The engine number is, 10605ZF, so it is either a 145 CI (’61, 98HP, ‘62-’63 102HP OR A 164 CI ‘64 110HP engine. Only way for sure is to remove shrouding and check what heads are installed.

The Corvan did run up to about 10yrs ago, but last time I ran started it in was missing and clacking, I’m guessing it dropped a value seat, but still ran. Engine dose turn over by hand or starter without any clunks. I have owned about 12 Corvairs over my life time (I’m old) and still have 7 more, most Forward control trucks and Vans.

OK, this Van has rust here and there on the body, see pictures, and the floor inside have some rust out areas, again see pictures. Somebody has cutout small sections of the floor, see pictures. But I believe it is repairable, not a basket case.

The steering and brakes work. But the electrical system is not working, o battery included.

I do have a clear CA title on none opp. Have keys for all including the locking gas cap. I have 3 mag wheel locks with master key, removed see pictures.

Tires hold air for a week or so, but are over 20+ years old and need replacing. The van had a paneled and carpeted interior and I think those are VW van front seats, which also need replacing. I removed the interior, to clean out all the mouse droppings and powered washed the interior.

Windshield and other glass are good, someone added two sunroofs at one time and someone else (I’m guessing, removed them and welded in steel plate to cover the holes. Well, they did not protect the roof right so there are some rust-out areas on the roof, I posted pictures before I covered them with duct tape to keep the interior drier. Also, a wooden cover over the roof vent needs replacing.

All doors have good hinges and open and close ok, I replace one of the passenger side door hinges.

Included is a home made front spare tire mount for front bumper.

I live in the country, about 4 miles from the main road.
