1962 Chevy C10 Big Back Window
1962 Chevrolet C-10
General– I cannot drive this truck anywhere without someone complimenting me and telling me about one like it their father, grandad or buddy in high school had. It turns heads wherever I go. It runs, drives, stops, and most important, has a clear title. It is a 1962 Chevrolet C-10, Custom Cab and Big Back Window. This truck came out of the Central Montana wheat farm/ranch country. It is so much fun and I so enjoy cruising around and receiving the compliments it garners. I would rather drive it then my Superduty or my wife’s new Chevy Traverse.
The 1960 thru 1966 Chevrolet pickups are some of the most sought after of all collector pickups. The most sought after of these are thecoveted Custom Caband Big Back Window. However, any more these trucks pretty much fall into two categories; the first being a total basket cases, wrecked or parted out beyond restoration, and good only for parts. The second category is one which is already restored and well beyond most budgets. This is the hard to find in between and can be considered a project but can driven right now as is. It is also an excellent candidate for either restoration or to hot rod, however if the latter is your plan, I do not want to hear about it.
Mechanical- The engine is a Chevrolet 350 CID. The best I could decode it, it is an early 1970s Chevelle or Camaro. The transmission is a GM 4 speed and seems to be original to the engine. The transmission has a Hurst shifter. The truck starts great in the winter below O. Under my watch I have installed a set of Bosch temperature, oil pressure and voltmeter gages, fuel pump, and installed a tachometer to determine speed NASCAR style.
Exterior- The best part about this truck is it is a Custom Cab and Big Back Window, with the chrome window garnish, grill, side and cab moldings and bumpers.Under my watch I have installed a functional marine plywood bed floor. The body has some awesome patina but does have rust which is typical for this series; although both front fenders have been replaced. Necessary patch panels from LMC and Brothers will accompany the truck for the buy it now price for any additional repair you want to do. The other option is do as I did, and the guy before me, and probably those before him, just enjoy driving the truck as it is. It also has 60 years of dents, dings, cracks, and blemishes, and best of all awesome patina. The truck shines up nicely and presents itself well. The tires and back in the day wheels are low and wide and give the truck a cool low stance. You will also receive a spare, jack and lug wrench. The back in the day box in the bed will accompany the truckfor the buy it now price.
Interior– Not much to talk about here. The seat is serviceable and both it and the floor mat appear to be original.I mentioned the new gages earlier. All glass in this truck is present and unbroken. The interior of this truck is all there. If you are going for an original restoration - clean it, sand it, and paint it.If you are going for a hot ro, then you probably already have your own ideas, or do like me, the guy before me, and probably the guy before him, leave it alone and drive it.
Summary –The simplicity of an old pickup is what makes its restoration so popular and easy. This one would make a great project for a father and son/daughter, the guys in the shop, or whoever. The stance and patina will turn heads wherever you go. This truck deserves another chance in life to show up at your local car show, or for work with your business logo, race team, or cause on the doors.
