This is the famous "Andy Hope Overland" owned for decades by Mr Hope (2nd owner) of Tulsa Ok. It is likely the most original Overland model 83 In existence today. Mr Hopes prized possession, he lovingly restored the car in the 50s. The car was bought through the estate by Mr Richard Rawlings of "Gas Monkey Garage" and I bought it from him. In fact.... the car (and my purchase) was featured on the season premier of the show this year. (Kinda cool. Super nice guy!!!!) Richard did nothing to the car. Didn't even wipe the dust off. When I bought it..... the car hadn't been run in 40+ years! So after I got it home..... I dropped the oil pan and pulled all the main and rod bearing caps to check the Babbitt and fit. All perfect. Next I opened and flushed and lubed the transaxle/differential, repacked wheel bearings, freed a stuck valve. Soaked rings/pistons in Marvel mystery oil for a week, adjusted valves, all new "correct" hoses and clamps. New "correct" plug wires, blasted plugs, flushed water jackets, radiator and manifolds. New exhaust and intake gaskets. Polished the brass and aluminum manifolds, re wired the main switch plate on the steering wheel. New stitched leather fan belt. And finally.... upgraded the magneto to a newly rebuilt Bosch DU-4 (I still have the original Dixie 40) she fired right up and has been flawless ever since. I've put at least 200 miles on it. I have the original owners manual and dealer brochure and salesman postcard plus other neat literature. I have an extra (double spare) and boxes of little extra parts. I have the tank out of it now for cleaning but I've been driving everywhere with a remote can for gas. The paint is old 60 yr old lacquer and is doing its thing. The interior is the corrrect fabric and pattern and is excellent. All sheet metal is very solid as are the wood subframe and wheels. Ok guys..... gonna blow you away...... this is a "NUMBERS MATCHING CAR!!" Yes. Engine and frame are original from the factory! Unheard of!! The "first year issue" Oklahoma plate is worth $1000 by itself! Tires are the "non skid" type and two are fair and two are pretty worn. I have a good title in my name. Now..... I know there are "purists" out there that say the model 83 jug Motor car is really a 1916. Well.... ya know what..... this car was built in 1915.....it was first sold in 1915......and was first titled as....and always has been titled as a 1915! So it's a '15. It is also recognized by the "horseless carriage club of America" as a 1915. I LOVE the car and really wish I could keep it, but I take pride that I brought it back to life for other generations to enjoy and plus I need the money to finish my 1923 Franklin race car!!
