Description:

1966 Oldsmobile Starfire

1966 Oldsmobile Starfire, offered for sale by current private owner.
Car has broken spring in rear suspension, and has not been started since 2020. Although the car has all its parts, it is not currently drivable due to broken spring, and will not start due to the years of disuse. Additionally, the last few years spent outdoors have taken a toll on the paint, as can be seen in the photos.
For anyone not dissuaded by the above paragraph, please read on for the GOOD stuff.
This numbers-matching '66 Starfire has all the standard Starfire features (big high compression 425 V-8, Turbo-Hydramatic 400 transmission) and a long service history, with documentation stretching back to the mid 1990's. The original owner had the car for 37 years. He sold it to some family friends in 2003, who then sold it to the current owner in 2006. Car includes complete documentation of service work from 2006 to current day, and partial documentation stretching back to 1995. Vehicle was re-upholstered in 1995, repainted in 2007, transmission rebuild in 2008, new tires in 2010, and many smaller repairs, including brake work, from 2006 to 2010. Current owner's father (and car expert) passed away in 2010, and the car has seen only infrequent repair work, and been infrequently driven, in the intervening 13 years. One of the car's rear springs broke in 2020, and the car has not been driven since. The current owner has been unable to obtain service at local repair shops, and has now placed the car up for sale.
Auction includes many extras and spare parts, including carburetors, wheel covers, service manuals, automotive fluids, lower air distribution manifold, correct '66 AM-FM radio, and boxes of automotive items too numerous to mention.

Auction bidders should be informed that the car is not currently drivable. Auction winner will need to provide their own method of towing/carting the car away from its current location, near downtown Omaha Nebraska. The seller is happy to work with the buyer in scheduling local pick-up. No rush and no worries.---------------------------
Payment either online via Buy-it-Now feature, or offline via Money Order or Cash on pickup.----------------------
Answers to other questions, in no particular order:
Q: What's that round hole in the dashboard?
A: That's for the clock. I removed the clock and replaced the electric movement with a modern quartz movement, but never got around to re-installing it in the dash. The clock will be included with the car.
Q: What features/options does this car have?
A: Many of the features which were standard in the 1965 Starfire became options for 1966, so this car does not have cruise control or power seats. It DOES have air conditioning, power windows, and center console shift. And, of course, the special high-compression Starfire engine.
Q: What do you mean by "numbers matching"?
A: I mean that the code numbers stamped on the engine block, heads, manifolds, and transmission are all correct and consistent with those which were originally installed in 1966. I have no reason to believe that any of those components are not the original parts. The one exception is the carburetor. The code on it corresponds with a 1967 model year. However, the correct 7026250 code carburetor is available, and will come included with the car.
Q: Can we see photos of the underside of the car?
A: Believe me, I tried. Between the low-clearance frame and the bright Nebraska sunlight, I was unable to get any usable photos with my DSLR; all that can be seen is the glare of the pavement.
Q: Why is the car parked on what looks like the upper level of a parking garage?
A: Because that's where I parked it 3 years ago, figuring that the rear suspension issues could easily and quickly be fixed by a local repair shop. Turns out I was wrong.
Q: Please explain.
A: That's not a question, but I know what you're asking for. This car has been sitting in the same spot for 3 years because I have been unable to contract the services of any Omaha-area vintage car repair shop during that time. They say they'll call back in a few months, and then never call back. And then apologize, but never commit to actually scheduling a date for the car to come in for an examination. Repeat this same cycle several times, for several repair places, over the course of several years, and *bam*, you now have a car with a dead battery, bad gas, won't start, and STILL has a broken rear spring. Rather than continue to play long-term phone tag with the above-mentioned repair shops, I decided to sell the car. Replacing the spring and returning the car to running condition should not be too difficult, in my opinion, for anyone with access to a lift and some free time.
Q: Will the engine from this car swap into my '69 4-4-2 / '73 Cutlass / [Insert Oldsmobile model here]?A: Yes; probably. I refer you to the experts at the Classic Oldsmobile Forums for the nitty gritty, but the 2nd-Generation Rocket V-8 engines have remarkable longevity and compatibility across the decades of production. I wince to think that this car will be purchased solely for its drivetrain, but the buyer can choose what they want to do with the vehicle.

Q: I have other questions!A: Feel free to use eBay's "Contact Seller" feature; I'll answer questions promptly.
