Ultimate "Barn Find"1967 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme 4 4 2This is the ultimate "barn find" when it comes to a 1967 Oldsmobile Cutlass 4 4 2 as this car is un-restored, seemingly untouched, basically complete and absolutely a matching number authentic 4 4 2 muscle car. Please read our complete description as we will try to accurately present this car with no intentional misrepresentations. When you see this car in person you will think you have traveled in a time capsule back to 1967 as the car has all the markings of being a true survivor 4 4 2 muscle car. Here is the information on the car:
Origin Of The Vehicle: According to the Warranty Data Book the car was sold new in Madison, Alabama (suburb of Huntsville) and appears to have spent its entire life in Alabama. I live one hour from Hunstville and the person I purchased the vehicle from lives less than 50 miles from my location.
Matching Numbers: Included with the sale of this vehicle is the original Protecto-Plate Warranty Book that was issued with the car when it was sold new. Along with the personal information about the purchaser, this booklet contains the engine number that is stamped on the passenger side engine head. The engine block is the correct 390925 E block and the engine heads are the correct "C" codes. Very few of these old Cutlass cars can claim this type of accuracy.
Authenticity: There are several significant signs that verify the accuracy of the car and how pure it has remained from the date of its production. In the photos you will see such things as the two original keys with the factory numbers stamped on them; the blue GM door decal that is still present; and even the factory type of exhaust tips that were unique to the 4 4 2 cars. The patina on the car is all period correct. The fabric on the seat covers, the grunge in the engine compartment, the appearance of the trunk mat, portions of the original paint, etc. all point to a car that is the real deal.
Also note the photo that shows the original keys includes the a factory card that was attached to one of the dash knobs when the car was on the dealer's lot. This card was found in the glove box and has stayed with the car for over 50 years.
Option List: This car was truly loaded with an excellent list of very desirable options. The big one is the L-78 option which provided all the necessary equipment for it to be a 4 4 2. Add to that the factory air conditioning system, power steering and power brakes, plus comfort features like tinted windows and a remote control outside mirror and you will then have a very nicely equipped vehicle. On top of that is the option that ranks as the rarest - this car has the factory "Rocket Rally Pak" which later became known as the Tic-Toc assembly among car guys. Mechanically one of the superior options is the choice of transmissions. This car is equipped with the 3 Speed Turbo Hydra Matic automatic transmission (not just the two speed Power Glide). In the photo you will see the transmission selector indicator includes the P - R - N - D - S - L to identify the three speed transmission. Other options included the deluxe seat belts, console, rear radio speaker, trunk light, etc. This particular car also has a complete set of five (5) SS wheels that were optional on these models.
Condition: It is not our intention to present this car as a running, driving car that is a daily driver. The car has been in storage a long time and no attempt has been made to even start the engine or drive the car. In my humble opinion this car needs (and greatly deserves) a full restoration. It is such an amazing opportunity to have an authentic matching number car from this era that it would be a shame to NOT restore this car. It truly deserves to live on as a classic car from the sixties.
Overall the body is fairly straight and in average condition. There is a moderate amount of rust in all of the typical areas (trunk lip, lower quarter panels, lower fenders, etc.) and there is one area of body damage from a previous accident (lower driver side quarter panel). However, the doors, hood and trunk all open and shut well and they have very well defined body lines. There are some places on the exterior where the original paint appears to still be present. It does not look like the car had a vinyl top so there is no roof damage from rust under the fabric. Both bumpers have some areas of rot precipitating their replacement too. The real good news is that the items indigenous to the 4 4 2 are all in nice condition (louvered hood, headlight bezels, grill bar, etc.). On the outside the only noticeable damage is the aforementioned rust, body damage and the broken antenna mast.
As you can tell from the photos the interior appears to be all original but it will need to be completely refurbished. The seat covers, headliner, carpet, door panels, etc. will all need to be replaced. Age, time and sunlight have taken their toll on the vinyl and cloth fabric.
4 4 2 Spotter's Guides: Identifying a 4 4 2 includes verifying a few components. This car passes all of the tests by having every single identifying mark. There is the louvered hood; the 4 4 2 emblems on the grill, fender, trunk and dash; the boxed lower control arms on the rear axle; the sway bars; the chrome closed air cleaner for the cars with automatic transmissions; the original engine decals; the grill bar and headlight bezels that were unique to the 4 4 2 cars and not used on the base Cutlass models; the factory exhaust tips; the mandatory 5VY on the firewall trim plate; the correct body style (all 1967 hardtop 4 4 2 cars were built on the Cutlass Supreme model number 3817); etc.
Beautiful Colors: The trim tag on the firewall reveals that this car left the factory with the C-C paint code meaning it was painted with Provincial White and the Trim Plate states that the interior color was red. What a stunning combination. Picture a lovely white car with red interior and then put the final touch on it with a set of red line tires. Wow!
Drive Train Components: All 1967 Cutlass 4 4 2 cars were equipped with the 400 cubic inch engine that produced 350 horsepower from a 10.5:1 compression ratio. This car has the Turbo Hydro Matic three speed transmission. According to the Protecto Plate Warranty Book the car has a 3:08 posi traction rear end.
Mileage: The "Item Specifics" information box shows that the mileage on this car is listed as 15,938 but we do not have any documents to indicate whether that is the actual mileage or if the odometer has rolled over. That is the stated mileage on this eBay listing and should not be construed as a statement of actual mileage on the car.
Warranty: There is NO warranty implied or stated with this car. It is being sold "As is/Where Is" only. We have made every attempt to accurately describe the vehicle and welcome any prospective buyer to personally inspect the vehicle prior to the sale. We have no way to warrant the engine, body condition, damage, etc. other than to provide great details in this listing.
Transfer Of Ownership: According to the License Commissioner the state of Alabama was not a title state prior to 1975 and no vehicle manufactured prior to that year had official state titles. This vehicle does not have a title and will be sold to the purchaser with a General Bill Of Sale only. No title for this car has ever existed and none can be produced per the governing laws of this state.
Shipping Services: This vehicle is being offered as a local pick up only. Any shipping services used for the delivery of the vehicle must be arranged at the buyer's discretion and expense.
Questions & Bidding: We welcome the opportunity to share additional information with you regarding this car. It is an exciting opportunity to preserve a part of history. Health and age are the only things that prevent me from completing the restoration of this fine automobile. It needs to be in the possession of someone who can give it what it deserves.
