Description:
1986 Nissan Stanza
This rust-free California car is a 1986 Nissan Stanza 4WD 5-speed wagon. It's a rare one and it only has 101,665 miles on it. It was quite a car in its day and it still is. There are a few little nicks on this car from being 32 years old and a "soft dent" (no crease) on the right front fender. A paintless dent removal company quoted me $300 to remove the dent. There is a crack on the right-rear corner of the rear bumper cover but it looks like those are still available on the internet.I got this Stanza wagon about a year ago and have changed the belts and had all of the fluids changed and a new valve cover gasket put on and a new exhaust manifold and gaskets and much more. The entire exhaust system underneath looks new and there is zero exhaust noise, it sounds and runs like new. It has the original jack and a carpeted, zippered spare tire cover over the spare tire in the rear storage area. This is actually where the spare tire goes on 4WD Stanza wagons. On front-drive Stanzas the spare is underneath but with the added 4WD drivetrain there wasn't room for the spare underneath so it's mounted on the floor of the rear cargo area with a carpeted, zippered cover and the spare has a wing nut holding it to the floor. The interior is nice with no cracks in the dash or anywhere and no rips in the seats. I have the original owner's manual and a Nissan Stanza specific service manual that goes with the car. There are a couple of unique storage trays under each front seat and super cool and unique arm rest storage areas as shown in the photo gallery. The 4WD system beeps, locks in, and works great. The right rear strut was clunking when I got this Stanza last March so I found a brand new NOS right rear strut still in the box unopened and still in the plastic and I had that put on and it cured the clunking. The suspension has many new parts in it such as brand new front drive axles, stabilizer bar links, etc. The 2.0L inline-four engine starts instantly and it runs and drives perfectly. It isn't fast but it could be used as a daily driver or taken on road trips. It has never been driven in the snow and I would hate to see it driven on salty roads but that's up to the next owner. To say that a rust-free 4WD 5-speed Stanza wagon is rare is the understatement of the decade! These cars literally never come up for sale in this configuration and being rust-free, it just doesn't happen.
The only thing that I can think of that this car needs is a new sunroof gasket. I haven't gotten around to tracking one down and having it installed yet. I travel 150+ days a year so I don't have as much time to tinker with my cars as I would like to. The power sunroof works perfectly but I have it taped shut to keep any water out. Of course it could be used in dry weather but I don't trust the weather here in Minnesota to not rain when we least expect it. I have owned this super unique 4WD wagon for a year and it has never seen a snowflake, not with the previous owner in Sacramento and not under my ownership. I kept it in a storage unit and it was never driven in the winter at all and it was kept on a battery trickle charger. Speaking of battery, it also has a new battery. The power steering and brakes work great and the brake system was flushed for maintenance and all fluids have been flushed and refilled by the import shop that I use exclusively.
This Stanza has "redundant" radio controls just to the right of the steering wheel on the upper-dash because the radio is mounted so low, that's a nice feature. This is a tall vehicle and it would be hard to reach down to adjust the radio in traffic. Both rear side doors slide open and lock into the open position and there is no b-pillar, probably the most unique feature of the Stanza wagon. Each rear side window has a folding window crank to open the window. The rear side windows go down 4 or 5-inches and then the window crank snaps back into hiding, another unique feature. The rear seat back folds down and the whole seat folds forward giving a generous cargo space in the back. The original owner in Sacramento, California painted the wheels and body side moldings black for some odd reason and they also had the windows tinted black. I planned on stripping and refinishing the wheels back to original-spec and taking the window tint off but I never did. They also applied some sort of dot pattern on the steering wheel - it seemed to start rubbing off when I tried so I'm not sure what they did that with. I haven't gone at it too seriously but it would be nice to get rid of those dots. I would bet that an interior detail company could make them disappear. The emergency brake, clutch, shifter, and the 4WD button and system all work perfectly.
Shipping is not included, of course, but I will help coordinate the pickup of this car with the shipper of your choice to get it to you as soon as it's paid for. A $500 deposit is payable within 48 hours after the close of the auction and the balance is due in 7 days. If this Stanza is sold locally the auction could end early. I have $6,400 into this Stanza wagon. It was too rare of a vehicle to not fix everything that I could on it so I just kept fixing things that needed fixing. The only thing left is the sunroof seal and stripping and repainting the wheels. I never planned on selling it but I lost my biggest client in January and I have to come up with some money to keep my business afloat. Reasonable offers accepted, send a message and let's see if we can work something out. I have a crisp, clear title in my name.
