1960 MGA Twin Cam Circus Circus Casino One Owner No Rust Nevada Rest Project MGA
1960 MG MGA
GENERAL DESCRIPTION:Time to let go of my car collection. I bought two MGA's from a gentleman in Las Vegas in 1990. One was a perfect rust free 1960 MGA 1600 roadster, which I still have, and the other was this perfectly rust free 1960 MGA Twin Cam roadster. The gentleman bought both cars brand new in Nevada and had them garaged until I bought them June 21, 1990. He was a blackjack dealer for Circus Circus Casino in Las Vegas from 1968 through 1990 until he retired and then passed away - this is the reason for his personal CGG777 license plates. The Circus Circus employee parking lot permit is still on the windshield. I am the 2nd owner. This is a SOLID, NO RUST Nevada car. You can't get any better. I put it in storage the day it arrived in 1990 and had plans to restore it but will never get to it. (am 77). It has never been restored and the rust free chassis and body are exactly what I wanted for a Twin Cam project. These are obviously THE strong points of the car and something I value quite highly. Mechanicals I can handle easily - I cannot put up with rust. Total mileage is 53491. Original color is black with red interior - one photo shows an example of a twin cam in those colors for a visual comparison. The two black cars shown are not part of this auction and are shown just as examples of finished cars. Please scroll down to see more photos.
VALUE:
As of this writing Hagertys classic car values list the value for the 1960 MGA Twin Cam roadster at: Fair: $18,100. Good: $31,300. (average) Excellent: $52,800. Concours: $82,500. NADA classic car values are: Low: $23,800. Average: $40,400. High: $84,600. With the probability that prices will continue to increase over time. Keeping in mind that this is also a rust free car where most of them have or have had plenty of rust.
ENGINE:
Engine has been sitting for at least 40 years and has always had machine oil fed into the cylinders and turned over by hand to keep it free but it should be disassembled and refreshed after sitting for so many years. I put the car in storage in 1990 and never had it running. The original 1960 Lucas generator is not mounted but is included. Original starter is mounted. There is a new distributor that goes with the car. The carburetor air cleaners are missing. There are some other parts missing in the engine compartment - the ones I know of are the radiator header tank and radiator. I don't think the radiator that is in it is the original. Everything else looks to be 1960 factory original and intact.
TRANSMISSION:
The original 4 speed transmission is complete and intact and goes through the gears dry perfectly. I anticipate no issues with it. He parked the car in his garage because the clutch went out - he had the other 1600 to drive so it wasn't a priority issue. In time he removed the transmission and was going to put in a new clutch but he died before that happened. We found later that it was just the clutch hydraulics that went out, not the clutch itself. The transmission was reinstalled properly for safe shipment to my home after the purchase because it is the original twin cam transmission and we did not want it lost during transport. (ask me how I know that happens). It is just missing the clutch and pressure plate - low cost items.
ENGINE COMPARTMENT:
Excellent, straight, mostly old original black factory paint, solid. No accident damage, rust or other issues anywhere. Original Smiths twin cam specific heater assembly is there intact.
TRUNK COMPARTMENT:
Excellent, solid, no rust anywhere, no damage, original factory black paint.
BODY PANELS, SHEET METAL:
The car was always garaged in Nevada. No rust anywhere. Floors are the original 1960 factory wood floors. Both aluminum doors have some body filler where there were dents. Bottoms of the doors are rust free.
EXTERIOR BODY PARTS:
Chrome trim is all original and still in very good condition.
INTERIOR/UPHOLSTERY:
The interior is the original old 1960 factory interior needing replacement.
DASH AREA:
All original dash, original gauges and switches and still quite nice.
ELECTRICAL:
All original and in quite good condition. Nothing ripped out, jumpered, butchered or rodent eaten.
GLASS:
The windshield is factory original and in excellent undamaged condition. No cracks, scratches or other issues. The original Circus Circus Casino employees parking lot permit is still there.
CHASSIS:
The underside is excellent, rust free, straight, original, complete and undamaged from front to back.
WHEELS/TIRES:
All 4 wheels are in excellent condition. Tires are old and need replacing. There is no spare wheel/tire.
SUSPENSION/BRAKES/STEERING:
All complete and original. The steering works perfectly. Brake system is original 4 wheel disc brake which will need rebuilding - everything is there and intact.
PAINT:
Absolutely horrible. Original color was black. It had been cheaply repainted in the past and has been touched up with cheap paint wherever there was paint lifting or scabs or scratches to protect the metal underneath. The paint, although it looks decent in the photos is abysmal.
EXHAUST:
The Twin Cam exhaust manifolds are there and in excellent condition. There is no exhaust past that point.
FACTORY ID PLATES:
The original ID plates are all excellent, intact and unmodified. They are all the correct original factory numbers.
PAPERWORK:
The car comes with a clear proper Nevada title and British Motor Heritage Trust Certificate. The original Circus Circus parking permit for employees is still on the windshield.
REVIEW:
A special rust free Twin Cam that can be put back on the road - the way you want it - not a "restored" piece that someone slapped together for resale.
INSPECTION OF CAR:
It is difficult at best to describe something as complex as a vehicle and it is recommended that you personally inspect the car or have a 3rd party inspect it for you. I can accommodate anyone to show them the car. It is described to the best of my ability but it is the bidders ultimate responsibility to ensure that what he thinks he is getting is indeed one in the same and something he will be happy with. I have sold roughly 30 autos/motorcycles through ebay over the past 20 years and have always had excellent results and complete satisfaction from the buyers with 100 percent positive feedback on every transaction.
SHIPPING:
Having shipped cars to all parts of the world over the years I can assist the buyer with transport. The cheapest and most efficient method usually is for you to call a transport broker in your area and have them put out bids for the job. I can handle all shipping if necessary but it would cost more. The car is in a secure place at my home and it can be collected there. I can assist with loading.
PAYMENT & BIDDING:
Contact me if you have less than 5 feedbacks or your bid WILL be cancelled. A $1000 non refundable deposit via Paypal is due immediately after the auction closes. The balance is due within 3 days via a bank cashiers check, personal check or wire transfer. Full payment is to be made IN ADVANCE of collecting the car. This is an auction and you have plenty of time to inspect the car personally or have a 3rd party inspect the car - inspections are welcome and encouraged. Winning the auction does not mean that you now have the privilege of coming to inspect the car to see if you like it. When the auction is over payment is due at the close of the auction per these instructions. The car is at my home and can be left here for up to 30 days at no charge before collection.
