1979 MG MGB

This is a 1979 MGB with overdrive. It has been converted to chrome bumpers and lowered one inch. It is the same ride height as the older pre-1974 chrome bumper MGB's. The chrome bumper conversion was done prior to a new paint job in 2014. The paint job was done by a professional paint shop. Receipt for this is included. I included a couple of photos in primer so you can see the level of prep work done. Most of the chrome, lenses, and trim were replaced following the repaint. I would argue the quality of the paint and bodywork is better than new. Over 120 hours were spent on the conversion and repaint. The underneath of the hood, the trunk, inner and outer door sills was repainted. The engine bay, inner fenders, and underneath the car are still original paint. This is a rust-free California car with all its original sheet metal. I included a photo of the car before the conversion with original paint. It is the photo with the rubber bumpers still attached.

The engine was rebuilt at 55,000 miles and has around 7500 miles on it. A machine shop went through the bottom end. Receipt for this is included. The block was honed, dipped, and decked. The compression was increased to 9.75 to 1. A new alloy performance head was installed. The head has larger intake valves, larger intake and exhaust ports, and hardened seats for modern unleaded fuel. A Weber carb and intake, and header were added. Car also has electric ignition. At the time of the engine rebuild I replaced the entire cooling system. This includes radiator, heater core, thermostat, water pump, heater valve, and hoses. The engine runs excellent. Smoother and more powerful then stock. Lots of torque. I run regular unleaded fuel with ethanol blend without any issues, or pinging. The extra power of the engine combined with overdrive make this a good highway cruiser. The transmission shifts well without any grinding or crunching. The overdrive drives work as expected. Car runs 3500 RPM at 75 MPH. I inspected the clutch at the time of the engine rebuild it appeared to have been changed recently. I have averaged over 35 MPG twice on the highway. The car runs straight down the highway without any shakes or pulling. Suspension, steering, kingpins, and bushings are all tight. The dampers or shocks are in good working order.

The interior has new carpet, seats recovered, upgraded steering wheel and a modern stereo added. The dash, gauges, and panel kit are original. All electronics are in good working over. All gauge's work, and are accurate. The original owner's manual for the car, the owner's manual for the stereo, and a remote for the stereo are included in the glove box along with a stack of receipts for parts purchased for the car. Before installing the carpet, I ran a set of rear speaker wires but I never installed rear speakers as I couldn't bear to cut holes in the rear deck. The wires are tucked under the carpet in the rear deck if anyone wants to use them. This is shown in one of the phots.

The inside of the trunk is spotless. It was repainted with the rest of the car. The original spare tire appears to have never been used. Some of the suspension components still contain the original black paint. The convertible top is in excellent condition. It was replaced. The rear window can be unzipped. The boot and tonneau are included. There is a small repair in the boot. I included this in the photos.

The car does have a few minor issues. There is a bad spot in the dash to the right of the glove box where there are some cracks. I touched up the cracks with some clear glue to prevent it from getting worse. There are some cracks in the corners of the vent window frames. It was this way when I got the car. As long as no one pulls the doors shut by grabbing the vent windows I don't see the cracks getting any worse. Like all MG's this does leak a bit of oil, but I have never had to add any fluids. The seat belt buzzer is inoperable. I had to remove it to fix a drain on the battery.

The car comes with the following extra's. A dust cover, and battery tender for storage. The ordinal steering wheel. The original wheels, tires removed, along with center caps, lug nuts, and beauty rings. The original cylinder head. The head is complete. The boot, and tonneau cover. Several serviceand parts manuals. The car has two sets of floor mats. A molded rubber set in the car, and a like new set of carpet mats.
