1974 MG MGB GT Mark III Description1974 MG MGB GT Mark III V8
Final year for the MGB GT in the United States 350 CID GM V-8 engine with a Weiand intake manifold and dual exhausts Three-speed automatic transmission with nine-inch Ford rear end Yellow over Black exterior with black interior with yellow trim Beefy Four-link rear suspension with coilovers Mini-tubed rear Rack-and-pinion steering Handsomely stanced with staggered Boyd's alloy wheelsA tidy English Gran Tourer with some serious power and suspension upgrades has arrived at MotoeXotica Classic Cars. We are pleased to present this GM V8 powered 1974 MG MGB GT. This GT has been outfitted with a mini-tub rear with four-link suspension and coilovers to handle the power of the V8.
Finished in yellow over black, the car's paint and trim are in overall excellent condition while the car's glass panels are clear and intact, including the rear window with its defroster grid. The small tourer's lights are in better-than-average condition.
The MG's bodywork is straight and solid, the engine bay is very tidy, as is the rear cargo area and the bumpers fit well to the body. This fast little MG rolls on radials surrounding Boyd's five-spoke alloy wheels with spinners and center caps.
Upgrades under the well-ventilated hood is a GM 350 CID V-8 engine with a Weiand intake manifold and breathing through dual exhausts. Backing up the motor is a three-speed automatic transmission and a nine-inch Ford differential. Other features include a four-link rear suspension with coilovers and rack-and-pinion steering.
Inside, the black leather seats sport yellow piping and are in great overall condition. The black carpeting is in good order, as is the headliner. The three-spoke steering wheel has a wooden rim and looks great. The instrument panel, with its full array of gauges and the inner door panels are in decent order. Between the seats is a B&M racing shifter.
The fixed-roof MGB GT was introduced in October 1965. Production continued until 1980, although export to the US ceased in 1974. The MGB GT sported a ground-breaking greenhouse designed by Pininfarina and launched the sporty "hatchback" style. By combining the sloping rear window with the rear deck lid, the B GT offered the utility of a station wagon while retaining the style and shape of a coupe. This new configuration was a 2+2 design with a right-angled rear bench seat and far more luggage space than in the roadster. Relatively few components differed, although the MGB GT did receive different suspension springs and anti-roll bars and a different windscreen which was more easily and inexpensively serviceable.
Competition to this MG in 1974 included Chevrolet's Vega, Ford's Pinto, Mercury's Bobcat and Pontiac's Astre.
The sporting nature of the roadster combined with the practicality of a small estate car - that sums up the MG MGB GT. This one has particular goodies not found in traditional MGs so stop by MotoeXotica Classic Cars today and check this one out in person before someone else drives it home.
