Description:
1967 MG MGB GT Coupe
1967 MGB MGBGT Coupe Red with Black Interior. Nice driver quality car refurbished by the last previous owner who installed a 1969 MGB engine and all synchromesh transmission from a donor car. I purchased this car three years ago and converted it to single battery negative ground and installed a Speedhut GPS speedometer and matching electric tachometer as the original Smiths speedometer and tach were both not working properly. The Speedhut units work great. The original Smiths speedometer and tach are included in the sale (they both will need to be rebuilt) should the new owner want to go back to the original style instruments. The car was repainted by the last previous owner in what appears to be the original red or something very close to it. The car has a Sebring style front valance panel and the bumper guards have been removed which required relocation of the the rear license plate lights. The rear trim and front upper panel below the windshield at the front fenders were also revised by the last previous owner prior to painting. The seam between the fenders and the panel below the windshield has been filled and smoothed and the beading normally found there has been eliminated. They did a nice job with the body work and paint. The biggest flaw in the body is a larger than standard gap between the driver side door and rear quarter panel when the driver side door is closed. I have not looked into having the door aligned it latches properly so that was not an issue for me. The car has its original aluminum bonnet (engine hood in U.S. terms) which is straight with no dents or waves. I have attempted to capture all of this in the pictures.
The seats and carpet including in the hatch area are in excellent condition. The dash roll and rear hatch area carpet are new. All of the gauges, lights, and electrical accessories work. The car does not have a radio but one could be easily added now that it is negative ground. A battery cutoff switch is installed behind the passenger seat (easy for the driver to reach). A 100th's reading 60 minute rally type split stopwatch is mounted to the dash and will be left in place for the new owner. Seat belts and both sun visors are new (the sun visors have custom black leather covers from the UK to match the replacement black vinyl headliner which looks great I think better than stock). The steel dash has pretty much lost its crinkle finish and has what could politely be called an age patina. Pulling the dash to refinish it would be a good winter project for the next owner if desired.
The car is very clean under the hood and the engine bay has been nicely detailed. It has a Bosch blue coil and a "new" rebuilt generator. It also has a stainless steel exhaust system and five matching near new radial tires on wire wheels. The wheels are true the car does not shimmy or shake. I carry a Mazda aluminum scissors jack in the boot for emergencies and will include that with the sale along with the original style jack.
I would urge anyone who is seriously interested in this car to come and view and drive it or have it inspected by a third party. This is not a show car but it is a nice clean car. I have driven it locally to shows and events but I have not taken it on any long trips. Car is always stored inside and covered when not in use. I am available to assist with whatever shipping arrangements the buyer makes and can store the car indoors for a reasonable period at no cost to the buyer until the car is picked-up.
Sale includes an excellent near new custom California Car Cover. Car has a clear Virginia title with "Exempt" odometer mileage. Actual mileage is not known but the Smiths speedometer removed from the car shows just over 30,000 which may be the mileage at which it stopped recording or may be the second time around. Mileage on the replacement engine and transmission are also not known but the transmission shifts smoothly with no grinding or popping gears and the clutch operates properly and does not chatter. The car does not leak any fluids when parked. Car should be judged by its condition as it is odometer exempt and true mileage on both the body and the drive train are not known.
This is a 50 year old special interest vehicle. It is being sold "as is where is" without any warranties either express or implied.
