COMPLETE UNDERCARRIAGE PICTURES COMING STAY TUNED
I uploaded as many pics as I could 30 is limit. I have other feel free to request specific areas or ask questions
Complete Drivetrain or Complete Car Available. NO title! This offered for a short time as I'm looking into getting a title at which point this listing will be removed. The car as pictured asking price is $5900. This was registered in Rhode Island and it expired in 2021. The owner apparently passed away and there is a signed bill of sale from his son. If you wanted just for the drivetrain I could reduce price to $4900 which would include engine, transmission, rear end, brakes, suspension in rolling chassis. The Convertible top, complete interior including steering column, all exterior trim including bumper mirrors and trunk lid will be removed for the reduced price. Would definitely be worth restoring if title is obtained. Would also make a great donor drivetrain for your Ford Mustang, Cougar, Torino, Bronco, F150 Maverick Foxbody etc
1973 Mercury Cougar XR-7 Convertible. Car came from factory with 351 Cobra Jet Performance Package including "Q" Code 351 Cobra Jet from factory with rare 4 bolt main block, 4v heads, performance cam and upgraded valve springs. The C6 Automatic Transmission comes from factory with high stall Heavy Duty Torque converter. The rear end is 9 inch with 3.25 Traction lock (posi) with staggered shocks.
MECHANICAL
I only heard car run on starting fluid. Drained old gas filled float bowl and it started right up. NO smoke or any kind of noises. Revs out extremely strong with crisp throttle response Great oil pressure. The idle is a little high and sometimes it fluctuates I would recommend rebuilding carburetor because it's been sitting. If you did that I believe this engine could be driven regularly. The engine compartment is remarkably original. The air cleaner even has the original paper breather hose and plastic flex house that goes to air pick up. No wiring modifications and every clip seem to be in place just like it left factory. I will upload video of motor running
The transmission goes into forward and reverse and moves forward and backwards. Haven't tested on open road to see if it shifts. It looks it has been rebuilt in the recent past as you can tell it has been removed and the housing was painted.
The brakes are all good. Front pads have 50% plus life left. Rotors smooth. Looks like back have been completely done. The drums come of easily and you can see that all hardware has been replaced including pads and wheel cylinders. The brake lines are all good and the pedal is very firm. Absolutely no issues with brakes road worthy
The exhaust also is relatively new. It was done correctly complete dual exhaust with crossover pipe and all welded seams all hangers intact again road worthy
The suspension and steering all seem to be in good shape. Everything is tight and it was obvious that everything was greased regularly. Road worthy in my opinion. Tires still have nipples on them don't think they even have been on the road. they are Uniroyal Tiger Paws 222/60/15 date coded 2019.
The lights, brake lights and sequential turn signals all work
This car was well loved and maintained I believe it was driven on street last in 2019. It is my honest opinion with rebuild carb this could be a reliable classic car
FRONT FRAME RAILS / TORQUE BOXES/ CORE SUPPORT/ CROSSMEMBERS
Excellent front Clip 9 out of 10. Absolutely NO collision damage. Hard to find cleaner. Worst I could say is the inner bumper and the stupid 5 mpg crash bumper mounts have a little surface rust and core support also has kink where someone probably jacked it up. Overall amazingly solid
SHOCK TOWERS / FENDER APRONS
Overall solid would say 7.5 to 8 under the hood there are a few silver dollar sized areas that are bubbling. Super solid where the bottoms meet frame rails. Nothing structural to worry about. Small rust areas could be fixed no need to replace any inner fenders / aprons
REAR FRAME RAILS / TORQUE BOX / TRUNK FLOOR / WHEEL WELL CORNERS
Hard to find nicer.. mostly surface rust frame rails, trunk floors, cross members and torque boxes extremely solid. Looks like it was heavily undercoated
MAIN FLOORS / SUBFRAMES / SEAT PANS
Everything structural seems solid. The subframes and seat reinforcement pans solid. The major rust areas are where the floors meet rockers. Driver side more solid than passenger. The rockers are mostly solid except for rear where it meets front of rear wheel well. Pinch welds at bottom of rocker have some bubbling. Passenger side as mentioned has same issues but worse
SHEET METAL
Hood is heavily rusted heavily especially underneath needs replacedFenders have rust at bottom could be repairedDoors heavily rusted need replacedQuarters are ok. Driver is nice with small arear near wheel well and trunk drop off. The passenger bottom drop off has had a bondo patch done. The car comes with 2 new aftermarket drop off panelsTrunk lid and rear valence are in excellent condition.
