1953 Mercury Monterey Coupe

1953 Mercury Monterey
Buying a car online is difficult. You have to rely almost completely on photos... so i'm going to do my best to describe the car to the best of my ability, so you don't have to rely only on the pictures.
Red/Black with Matching Red and Black Interior. I believe the car to be all original, with possibly one repaint in its life. The body panels are certainly original and the trunk still retains its original undercoating and cardboard mats. Engine / Trans are the originals.
All the body panels are very good. I think there is some filler in the car here and there but it's not popping. Paint shines well for an older job. There is some rust and evidence of older rust repair in the floors as you can see in the last photo. I suspect this was done a LONG time ago based on how it was done, and what wasn't done. The car doesn't need floors put in or anything like that.. but the repair is amateur, and clearly not professional. There is some rust in the mid-body mount where it connects to the rocker which also shows it's age. By far the worst part of the car is here. It's not structural... as it's very strong there, but as you can see it is unsightly and not at all correct. That's the bad news... but the good news is, you don't have to repaint the car to correct it... and you can only see it from underneath. There is also some rust across the rear brace that runs behind the rear bumper.. but it's not major and common for a car of this age that hasn't undergone a complete restoration.
Glass is all good- windows all roll up and down and seal well.
Chrome is driver quality and is starting to show its age. It does have the rare fog light bumper which is a total plus. All of the stainless and chrome is present. These cars are a pain to find parts like that for, so that's important.
The car currently isn't running (well) as it needs a carburetor badly. We stopped driving it in the fall due to this and over the winter purchased a complete FI TECH fuel injection unit for it... intake up, ready to install. For the listed price it's included..(about a 2000.00 value) but if you just want to purchase without it we can discuss it over an offer. The car does and doesn't start as a result of the carb currently so i'm just going to say it's not running... BUT - Until the carb issue this was running and driving really well. I would say that it could benefit from a front end alignment... but not terrible. All the lights, signals... heat/vents work... horn... all that stuff.. Just a great car that way. Seats and interior are original and there are some small areas that need repair in the drivers side. not bad... but the stitching is starting to go from age. No real Tears or anything... Other than the stated rocker/floor rust on the drivers side, this car is a week/weekend away from being back to a really really nice driver. I assume it has 109k miles on it... as the odometer shows somewhere around 9718 or so.
Tires and suspension are great. doesn't really smoke more than any other flathead i've ever owned did. Actually got great gas mileage.
