Description:

1963 Mercedes-Benz SL-Class

This survivor 1963 Mercedes 230SL is a very original example and an extremely early 1st year production model, the 879th Pagoda ever built.

The odometer displays an original low 55,830 miles (89,850KM) and the rest of the car reflects this.

The Mercedes possess its original, numbers matching 2,308 cc (2.3 L) M127.II inline-six engine still mated to its original 4-speed manual transmission.

The Engine and transmission (including the entire driveline) have never been apart and remain exactly as they were from when they left the factory originally in 1963, apart from seeing basic maintenance. The sensory feel and mechanical feedback a driver receives from an untouched, original car cannot be duplicated. This W113 in its original state feels exactly the way Mercedes-Benz and Rudolf Uhlenhaut intended, a mechanical time-capsule... as opposed to a restored one.

This example was originally bought new and owned for approximately 45 years by its original owner until his passing. It was under his care that he commissioned a re-paint in its factory-correct silver. The car has had no major accidents and no body repairs. After his passing, his wife unsure what to do with the car then approached the painter to purchase the Mercedes. Now in his 70’s of age, it is with this painter, “Mario” the Mercedes stayed undisturbed with in his garage for another 20 years.

While maintained during Mario’s ownership a cautionary check was warranted.

A recent service was completed, including a mechanical check and full replacement of fluids (A list of maintenance performed is below). The Mercedes starts, stops and tracks very nicely, the trans and clutch work exceptionally well and the car rides as nice as an original 230SL should. With each throw of the shifter “clicking” into gear like a fine watch, the pleasure of a factory-preserved Mercedes is fabulous.

I have seen many examples for sale…. but NONE with the originality of this one, this 230SL was only summer driven.

The car retains its factory Oxblood interior, complimented with Zebrano wood trim accents and an Ivory white steering wheel. The disappearing soft top is a matching maroon and the car was optioned with the rare, seat headrests.

Finished in the Mercedes-Benz iconic Silver over Red, this W113 holds presence.

With the exception of one repaint by the original owner, this 230SL is an unmolested survivor. It is an extremely early, first year example and only the 879th production car built of the historic Pagoda Mercedes-Benz.
