1981 Mercedes-Benz SL-Class

Here for your consideration is my 1981 Mercedes 380SL roadster. This has been a great vehicle to own but I have moved on to other projects.YES it has a salvage title that has never been a problem for me. A previous owner apparently had an accident and the insurance company placed salvage on the title. For the condition, price and how well it performs I could care less about the word salvage being on the title. It has only 74000 miles and runs like a low mileage luxury sport convertible. I recently had a complete tune up performed on the car at a cost of $600.00 and was going to convert the motor to dual timing chain which is a must on these model but low and behold it came from the factory with the dual timing chain set-up. After my mechanic removed one of the valve covers to our surprise it was already dual. This allowed me to do a complete service on the motor. The inside of the valve train is sparkling clean without out any noises or rattles. Starts up on the first try after sitting for several months even. Just installed in the past year a set of Bilstien shocks. Has new tires with less than 300 miles on them as well as the optional Mercedes wire wheels that bought and shipped from Connecticut. Also had speakers wires ran to the rear of the seat as you know these models only came with speakers in the dash. The interior of the car is reasonable clean. Yes the driver seat will need to be recovered as the bolsters have wear. Carpets are factory and decent and the door panels are very nice. The map pockets are becoming a bit loose which is an easy fix. Dash is clean an there are some cracks. All lights on the dash work as they should and the clock even keeps the correct time. There is a bad connection at the oil gauge as if you tap the dash it will start working.Power antennae works as it should. The A/C isnt presently working but looking at the compressor you can tell that it was replaced by the previous owner. I never got it running as this was my weekend convertible cruiser. The paint looks good from a distance but upon close inspection there is a bit of fading. The right front fender has received some work at one time as I can see slight difference in the color compared to the rest of the car and I can see some bondo cracking. The drivers rear quarter panel a slight ding from a shopping cart bumping it but nothing major. Hard to show up in the pics. All lights and turn signal work as they should and are in excellent shape....very bright colored and crisp. My wife bumped into the rear bumper in our drive so it has a very slight ding in the chrome and the side bumper is loose so I purchased another bumper which will need to be installed, I will include in the sale. This car can be enjoyed as it is but they are a couple things I was going to do next. One was to replace the front right brake caliper. I noticed a bit of brake fluid leakage & this caliper sticks a slight bit causing a very slight pull. I ordered a caliper at Oreillys at a cost of $40.00. Also the transmission needs the bands adjusting as at cold and slow accelerations its a bit sluggish. Once its gets warmed up and moderate gas is applied if shifts firm through the gears and lunges you forward. Lastly the original hard top that is in excellent shape is also included. The original canvas top is starting to dry rot. Please me know if you have any question...ONLY 74K MILES!!!
