Car is mechanically sound. Was a daily driver while I was feeling all sexy driving it. This is a real head turner. People love it. Totally reliable & an incredibly rare find. Can post more pictures if requested. No rust on undercarriage or the other common spots.
This is the car that started a production run that spanned 18 model years without one body panel change. They may seem pretty common because of 18 years of reliable German production. You can see this STYLE almost everywhere you go but not this MODEL. This is the model that started it all and is the rarest of the rare. To find one for sale in this condition at this price is nothing short of a miracle.
For sale is a beautiful example of this very rare 1972 450SL. Runs perfectly; fast as hell. Car is correct with proper restorations made when required. Hard top included. Garage kept, lovingly cared for. It's about 5 minutes from a complete, factory floor restoration. Just needs someone to take it over the goal line. I've been working on it for a while but it's time to move on. Minor imperfections but they're a couple of little pimples on a supermodel.
  • Custom Built Radiator
  • New Battery
  • New Exhaust
  • New Ignition Coil
  • New Belts & hoses
  • New Brakes
  • New Distributor Cap & Wires
  • Finely Tuned

  • Records go all the way back to 1972. You won't find that anywhere.

I've got over $15,000 in the car but the kids don't fit in it. Not safely, anyway. Some tiny stuff needs attention but it's the little minor things that will make the car yours. I'm not a dealer. I'm just a regular guy with an awesome classic car who needs something a little more family-friendly. You are encouraged to see & drive it.
The Mercedes-Benz SL name has always signified a certain level of automotive style and sophistication, and each new generation seems both to define and be defined by its era. Such was the case when the R107 model SL came on the scene in 1972 as a replacement for the popular 230/250/280SL W113 series. The family of models existed with minimal changes until 1989, a remarkable production run for a luxury convertible.
The first-year cars were dubbed 350SL in keeping with the model designation for Europe, despite actually carrying a 4.5-liter V-8 underhood. The fuel-injected V-8 features an overhead cam and delivers 230 horsepower. It is paired with a three-speed automatic, with no manual transmission on offer. Suspension is fully independent and four-wheel disc braking is standard.
For the first model year only, '72 models were badged as 350SLs (original badging is intact) in the United States even though they were equipped with the larger 4.5-liter V8 designed specifically for the U.S. From 1973-80, the designation was changed to 450SL. 1972 were equipped with smaller bumpers shown here - VERY RARE. All U.S. 450SLs had 3-speed automatic transmissions.
