Up for sale is my beloved 1963 Lincoln Continental. Originally finished in super-rare Silver Mink Metallic over black interior, though repainted white at some point in its life. These cars are becoming all but non-existant. I’ve just bought my fourth 62-64 Continental today, and this one keeps getting pushed back in the restoration queue. Condition: The Good
The car is very complete , which is important when buying one of these because the parts are scarce and expensive. The rear floor pans and trunk floor are near mint with factory paint still shining throughout. The interior is intact and restorable; rear seat is beautiful. Dash pad is perfect. The tires are hubcaps look like new, and the exhaust and fuel tank appear to be sound upon visual inspection. Brake pedal is firm and I can hear the brake shoes engaging when depressed. The lights seem to be working with the exception of a few burned out bulbs. Dash lights up, gas gauge reads and blower motor runs with ignition in run position . Interior lights illuminate with doors open. The previous owner had the car running off a gas can last month because he was unsure of the condition of the fuel in the main tank. The car passed New York state safety inspection in 2014, which leads me to believe the car was on the road in the last couple of years.
The BadThe car has rust problems as you can see from the pictures. Looking under the car, the frame looks solid. All 4 door hinges are solid, which is a common trouble area. The worst areas are the rear quarters and trunk lid. The front floor pans need to be patched. There are other smaller areas throughout the exterior sheet metal that will need addressed. Aftermarket repair panels and floor pans are readily available for many of the rusty areas. Driver’s side window broken and ignition lock cylinder was popped due to a theft attempt at the last owners residence. All power windows need attention.
Summary:I cannot stress enough that this car needs a full restoration. I have tried to be as honest and forthcoming as possible with regard to the history and condition of this car. If you have any specific questions please ask prior to bidding. I welcome anyone to come inspect the car in person prior to bidding. This is a very restorable car for the right person.
