1987 Land Rover Range Rover CLASSIC

CALIFORNIA RUST-FREE 1987 Range Rover. The first year of the Classic in the US, and a desirable solid-roof SWB, thus no leaky sunroof nightmares to contend with, ever !I have owned it for four years, slowly restoring it to a nice driver, but health issues force sale before completion. Needs some minor details and a little elbow grease to complete, not much but a little time and dedication, which after having my second kid, I just no longer have.
Thus, I have decided to sell it, along with my 1983 110 and my 1981 109 Stage 1 Panel Land Rovers. Life has a way of making one reassess priorities in life. My kids are it.I have owned and driven Land Rovers since I was 15 years old. I currently own five others ( including my Dad's 1967 109) which most will eventually find their way to new loving LR enthusiasts. My reality is that the time is just no longer there.I am not a car dealer or reseller. I am a lifelong CA resident and 28 YR ARMY veteran, still serving. I have a passion for old British iron. I have had the opportunity to drive various Land Rovers in both Iraq and Afghanistan, as well as in Africa and other parts of the world. There is nothing else like that experience.
I purchased the Range Rover after I returned from a deployment to central Africa in 2019, from the original owner who lived in Auburn in the mountains and was moving back home to Germany.
She had it at her property, a large ranch in the foothills of Gold country. At some point, the vehicle was stolen, the interior removed, some parts pilfered and keyed all around. That's how I purchased it. It was trailered home.
This is what gave the Rover the Salvage title. The lady purchased it back from the insurance company with the intention of replacing the interior, but never did, and it just sat forgotten basically, until I found it. It has NEVER been in any accidents ( check CARFAX or AUTOCHECK).
I had 007 MOTORSPORT in San Mateo, CA spend a considerable amount of man hours getting it back up and running, as it had sat for the last two years prior to my purchase. It was last registered in 2017.
ALL fluids were drained and changed. A new key was cut for the ignition for starters. Additional mechanical work and replacement of parts done:
* Timing chain cover and seal
* New water pump
* New clutch fan
* Remanufactured radiator
* Remanufactured distributor
* New vacuum advance
* New ignition coil
* New distributor shaft
* New fuel tank
* New fuel pump
* New tires
* New rear muffler
* New battery
* Various pulleys & brackets
* Smog pump* H pipe cat bypass
While this was taking place, I had all new seats installed ( or rather a used set of front and rear seats sourced from the net), and reupholstered in gray leatherette, as pictured. I also had a new full-length headliner done .
In addition, I had 007 MOTORSPORT do a respray in its original Chawton white ( it came out more of an Ivory tone, which looks actually nicer) with minimal body work required, as the body was very straight, even quarter panels and roofline.
The chassis, undercarriage, floorboards, bulkhead, doors, frames and every area I can think of are 100% RUST FREE. This is and has always been a California Rover. The lady also owned other properties in AK, AZ and a couple of other places to which she would actually TRAILER the Classic ( go figure) rather than drive it. To each his own.
Here it is today, nearly finished but still with various details to complete mainly in the interior. Missing the top of the center console, window switches, one pillar moulding ( the right one is in a box), various switches and small misc.
I got injured on duty in 2021. Haven't gone back on duty and am still recovering. With that, a household and two small kids, I find it nearly impossible to dedicate the time to finishing this Range Rover Classic, which I feel is not much.
The Rover runs well, idles high cold and runs well once warmed up. I also replaced the idle control valve and some small ancillaries but can't get it right. I think the timing is off still somehow. Regretfully I don't have any more spare time for it.
This is an opportunity for a Land Rover enthusiast to get a very early Classic with some minimal work and TLC. Given current market trends, this is a great deal.
