1983 Land Rover Defender

VINSALLDHMG8AA200512One of 4 Factory Pre-production Prototypes-Type Camel Trophy Land Rover 110s. There are only 2 existing. One of only 2 existing 1983 Camel Trophy 110s. The other one was turned into a civilian 110, and is currently being restored back to Camel Trophy Trim, however it does not have the original equipment. Therefore this vehicle is the rarest, and oldest Genuine Camel Trophy Land Rover 110 (Defender) in existence. It was restored in 2016. It has matching number engine and transmission from original with only 34,920 original miles.History. I have all supporting documents, and factory photographs from brand new to substantiate its heritage. This particular Camel Trophy was the second pre-production 110 and was used in all of the factory promotion Camel Trophy photographs. It was also one of 4 sent to Pre-Scout the Brazil 1984 Camel Trophy Race. It was then sent back to England and further outfitted to be the film truck in the actual Camel 84 race. Following the event, it was purchased and owned by one of the Italian drivers Sandro Damiani who kept it for many years. It still has the original 1984 Italian license plate on the back, as well as the original Italian title in his name in its red vinyl 1984 folder.
I have owned the truck since 2017 and is currently here in Charleston SC. It starts, runs and drives as it should. This is a true collector and the rarest Camel Trophy in existence.
During its frame on restoration, the front wings and rear crossmember were replaced. The restoration was done in England by one of Britains best restoration shops. There are 2 sets of Sand Ladders included. One set of Period correct small Sand Ladders, and one set of larger later Sand Ladders.Mechanically perfect. Costmetically near perfect. Historically Correct as far as I know.
Rare features. Only the 4 original 1983 Camels had the 2.25 NA Diesel engines. The 84 model used a 2.3, and the 2.5 Deisel was introduced in 85. The 83 models had bolt thru the gutter Brown Church roof racks. Following years were clip to the rain gutter racks. The 83 and 84 models did not have the front roll cage.If you know what Camel Trophy trucks are/were, then you will realize the historic significance and appreciating value of a true original. Being a genuine Camel, and one of 2 Factory Pre-Production trucks in existence, along with its Brazil history it will continue to appreciate in value.
