RARE LAND ROVER SERIES III STAGE I 109/ 110 DEFENDER TRANSITIONAL MODEL W/ V8!

Price: US $29,900.00
Description:

1980 Land Rover Defender SERIES III

1981 Land Rover Series III. This is a fairly rare original STAGE 1, limited-production transitional between the 109 and the 110 chassis. According to various LR registries, less than 200 remain operational in the US.A REAL Classic UK-made Land Rover Series Stage 1 109 with the very desirable V8, NOT a SANTANA copy !
I am the second US owner since importation to AZ in 2009. Purchased from a South African chap attending an Army exchange-student Officer basic course at Ft. Huachuca.
Titled as a 1980 in the US but built and sold in the UK in 1981, also when it first had its initial British MOT. Last British MOT inspection was in 2006.130k current actual original miles (odometer was replaced with a MPH instrument adjusted to its proper equivalent) by Sun City Automotive of AZ in 2010).

Desirable ORIGINAL factory-stock 3.5L V8 Range Rover motor with stock dual carburetors, not the troublesome 2.6 6 cylinder nor the anemic gutless 2.2 4 banger. Stock 4spd L77 heavy-duty manual transmission. Rides like a truck.
I had been slowly fixing it up, but I will be deploying overseas (yet again), and it keeps getting put on the backburner.
Between the mobilization and a projected new addition to the family, it seems unlikely that I will get it where I want it, thus I have decided to sell it. And the wife keeps nagging me for a newer Range Rover for her......rats
I have had a bit of work done, including a SACHS clutch back in 2015, brakes, carburetor rebuild, a new battery, clutch slave, new fuel tank, new fuel pump, drums, refinish of the roof, wheels, brand-new tires, cap & rotor, spark plugs, etc.
I also recently had new exhaust done along with a new set of points ( which frankly, are a royal pain in the arse to set. I recommend a PERTRONIX conversion update), a newly-installed rear rooftop ladder and some other bits that are also included. It also has a set up for an auxiliary battery in the left rear of the cargo area (although I have only used the one under the driver's seat, about 2 yrs old), an ignition kill switch under the seat, and a magnetic-key ignition kill on the dash as well.

This Stage 1 is ROCK SOLID across the board: chassis, floorboards, cargo area floor, rear wheelwells, crossmember, bulkhead, front fenders and wheelwells, etc. Inside of bottom of driver's door has corrosion from trapped water over its lifetime, prior to my purchase.I meant to change to door, but never bothered me to any great extent, so I let it be, frankly. And it looks fine, look at the photos. Iwould say it is 95% RUST FREE.
Original color was Inka Yellow, still visible in some small areas under the older blue refinish. It has always been blue for as long as I've owned it.I had the whole roof refinished, as well as the wheels, along with new tires fitted (less than 200 miles on them)
Drive it as is, or great base for an easy restoration.
Clear AZ title. Stage 1 V8 Land Rover Series III are quite rare in the US and hard to find. A Series III with the desirable V8 is the one to have.Priced well below market, with tons of room for an easy restoration to your taste if desired, or run it in the bush as it is !LOADS OF CHARACTER, and turns heads anywhere I take it.
It had been sitting indoor-stored at my parents property in Sonoma county for quite a while ( they own a small private vineyard there, and the weather is always balmy), and as I do not drive it much, it merely sits.I finally found the time to bring it back to my house, but yet it still sits, unused. Looking for a serious Land Rover hard-charger to give it the attention it deserves.

I live in Northern California ( in the SF peninsula) but I will be glad to assist or arrange shipping anywhere nationwide or overseas, at the most economical shipping rate available.Feel free to Email me, call or message me : 650*430*4660 PST with serious, pertinent questions.
Motivated, serious seller looking for a serious buyer looking for a late Series III with the much rarer V8.
