AZ RUST FREE 1981 LAND ROVER STAGE 1 130K V8 DEFENDER RARE 109/ 110 TRANSITIONAL
1980 Land Rover Defender STAGE 1
Unrestored 1981 Land Rover long-wheelbase, a rare STAGE 1 model, transitional between the 109 and 110s. A scarce Land Rover in Europe, even rarer in here. Reported less than 100 existing in the US.
Solid, AZ rust-free Long wheelbase model in the uncommon 3dr Panel configuration. Runs and drives well for a vintage Land Lover.
The iconic andultra-classic Landie we all grew up with. Unexpected expenses from wife's pregnancy force reluctant sale. VIN# SALLECAV1AA132954
130K odometer miles in MPH. Odometer replaced in 2009 with a MPH unit by Sun City Autoworks in AZ. Stored at Ft Huachuca in Sierra Vista for the last few years. This is a 1981 model, sold new in 1981, but logged in the US upon entry as a 1980.
I had planned to do a mild restoration, but unfortunately family priorities have changed.I have recently performed the following to bring it up to daily driving:* BRAND-NEW Firestone tires* Oil change with SHELL Rotella T5 15W40* Differentials flush, drain and refill* Manual Transmission drain and refill* Cooling system flush and refill* New overflow tank cap* New Brake master cylinder* Turned rear drums* New front brakes* New air filters* New BAP ignition coil* New STANDARD spark plug wires* New BRITPART cap and rotor* New Spark plugs* New LR floor rubber mats* New EXMOOR floor matting* New front and rear lenses* New HELLA 550 auxiliaries* Twin New HELLA 500 foglights* NEW spare tire ( on hood)* NEW battery* Fuel tank boiled out and recoated* Fuel lines pressure cleaned* New fuel filter* Carburetors overhauled
Stock 3.5L V8 engine runs well, with no noises or overheating issues of any kind. Stock dual carburetors with custom K&N air filters. Manual transmission shifts well into all gears. Transfer cases engage and disengage easily from the front lever below the driver's seat; NO nonsense of having to get out in the cold or rain to lock hubs! Replaced water pump, radiator and some other ancillary items.
RUST FREE chassis, floorboards, door sills, wheelwells, fenders, doors, trunk floor, tailgate and rear door. Driver's door has corrosion on the bottom inside area, as it is common in all of them.
Originally Yellow, refinished in factory blue many years ago. Body is very solid, and it has a dent on the right front fender ( I rubbed a boulder going in a very narrow pass on Gila national forest years ago).
Interior is fairly spartan as most of these are. Both stock front seats are in good shape without holes or tears.Note: the passenger set was changed before me, and I just never put the stock seat back on. I still have it.
This rare, super-classic Land Rover would make an excellent base for a concours restoration, a terrific overlander or just drive it as it is. Gets tons of looks and turns heads even from $120K Range Rover drivers! Priced modestly way below market to sell.
I will be glad to assist coordinating shipping of this Land Rover anywhere nationwide or overseas, at the most economical shipping rate available. Unlike the vast majority of sellers who advertise what they do not know ( let alone some sketchy car dealer!), I am a lifelong Land Rover enthusiast and still own five others ( a 2010 Supercharged, a 1996 Discovery I, two Range Rover Classic SWBs, and a 1966 109).
I have owned Land Rovers my whole life, various models and vintages, and know all their quirks well.
My reputation and feedback speak for themselves. Why buy from a source of questionable or minimal feedback ( usually it's for a reason), some shady car dealer type that knows nothing about these cars, or some equally questionable seller overseas ?
This Landy is home in sunny California, awaiting love and restoration by a new LR enthusiast.
