1987 Jeep J10 4x4 Pickup Truck
1987 Jeep J10 J10
The time has come for me to consider a difficult task, selling my beloved Jeep J10. I've acquired another vehicle and have decided to pass along this great truck to someone that will put her to better use and see her finished. This truck has been a really wonderful project, but I no longer have the time to see it completed. This is a 1987 Jeep J10 regular cab pick up truck. This truck has been my near daily driver for the past few years and I have treated her with as much respect as I possibly could.A little history for you folks that are unfamiliar with the Jeep J series, also known as the Gladiator (the real ones, not what you see on the lot today). These trucks were produced from 1963 until 1987 with a few assembled into 1988, at which point they were discontinued during the Chrysler take over (a direct competition for the Chrysler/Dodge line of Trucks). In 1987, only 1,347 J series trucks were produced. I'm not sure if that makes this particular truck rare, but I always found that to be fascinating. I've done an awful lot of work to this truck over the years and I'll be my best to list out everything, though, I'm likely to forget one or two items. Recent work completed:- Leaf Springs (all around)- Leaf Spring Shackles (all around)- Bilstein Shocks (all around)- Bump Stops (all around)- Sway Bar Bushings- End links (Heavy Duty)- End link Bushings- Brake pads and rotors (Front)- Wheel bearings (Front)- Ball Joints- Brake lines (steel braided)- Clutch- Transmission Fluid- Manual Locking hubs (Mile Marker)- Radiator and lines (custom aluminum)- Heater core and lines- Ignition control module- Distributor rotor and cap- Spark plugs- Spark plug cables- Battery- Air filter- Oil filter (comes with spares)- Oil pan gasket- Valve cover gasket- All fuel lines replaced- Gas Cap- 2" body lift- Alignment- Exhaust repair- Body Bushings and bolts- 5 new tires (less than 500 miles) 32" Cooper Discoverer AT3- Rims (comes with original rims and spare rim)- Bulbs in almost every light- Stereo and speakers (period correct and Bluetooth)- Seat covers- Window and Door seals (not all installed)The Character:- The speedo, and most of the original gauges no longer work, I've just dealt with it but looked into replacing via Dakota Digital.- Still a very small oil leak, this is pretty normal even with the gaskets replaced, in my experience. Does not lose much, just a drop here and there.- Steering is a bit loose but I have had no trouble driving it over the years. Considered replacing the steering box, but no longer have the time or space to complete the work.- The clutch linkage will need to be lengthened, it functions as is but there is no more room for adjustment.- You need to slam the doors pretty solid for them to close tightly, new door seals and I just haven't had the time to adjust properly.- There is a crack in the windshield, it's been there since I've owned the truck and it never really bothered me. I got a quote about a year ago for $179 to replace it but never felt the need.I managed to save just about every part that I swapped off this truck, so it will come with a number of original components, including the original grill frame, headlight buckets, and assorted parts to continue the work on this great truck. I also have most every receipt for repair work and maintenance that has been completed since I have owned this truck. I was told that the previous owner had rebuilt the engine, however, since they have passed away, I cannot confirm this. I have had absolutely no problems with the engine or transmission since I have owned this truck. She will need some cosmetic work, very minor rust along the rocker panels (pretty normal). All in all she is a great, reliable truck that has treated me well. With a little bit of elbow grease and gumption, this truck will be rolling down the road for many years to come. That being said, I wouldn't hesitate to drive this truck over to Denver and back again as she is now. I've had no trouble rolling down to Junction or over to Keystone in the winter. Please feel free to ask any questions that you might have, I'm certain I've forgotten a lot of work that she's had done. I think that about wraps things up and if there is any particular photos you would like to see, please feel free to let me know. Thanks for taking a look at the old Jeep!
