Here is a top of the line 1968 Jeep pickup- still being made by Kaiser at the time - with all the extras, including J3000 4X4, 327 AMC V-8, Custom Cab with dual bucket seats & center cushion, and automatic transmission! Best of all, it's a Black License plate Truck, in California since new ! . Sold new in Gilroy, CA, also known as the Garlic Capitol of the World! . Great styling ! . Excellent Chrome Tacoma wheels and beefy, thick tires. . Nice straight sides. It's been painted in the original metallic gold color, and the paint is pretty faded. . The original black license plates are nice, with the truck still being registered to them! The commercial plates started with a single alpha character, followed by 5 numeric digits. All pickup trucks and things like Rancheros and El Caminos had this type of plate. . A nice, solid, straight survivor! . Nice! . Excellent interior - the seats are the originals! So is the dashboard and headliner. We replaced the carpeting / rubber floor covering, though. The seats are part of the Custom Cab option, dual buckets with a center cushion. Nothin' but deluxe here! . It says "Custom Cab" right there! Because all the neighbors need to know you ponied up for the high zoot model! Kind of like the same reason you buy a Cadillac Eldorado! . Nice headlining - and some sort of 1960's intercom speaker too! . Good steering wheel, with only a few cracks, and a great center emblem. The sun tach is a cool piece but it's decorative at this point, I don't see any movement in the needle. . Here it is with the center cushion down . And with the center cushion up! I guess you could get 3 people in front here. . Breaker 1-9 good buddy - here's a vintage CB radio mounted in the glovebox! And, fortunately, the glovebox lid is also included with the sale. . Here's the 4X4 control, right next to the AC unit. The AC is all there but I don't think it blows cold air. . Here's the transfer case shift pattern. The 4X4 mechanism works in all modes. . Holy Toledo! That's where Jeeps were made when Kaiser made them! . Decent dash face, with working instruments. . Good solid pickup bed, with some surface rust showing . Solid Truck Bed . More signaling to your neighbors - J3000! 4 Wheel Drive! . The 327 V-8 is actually an American Motors creation, the last of the "first" series of AMC V-8's. As we'll see when we look at the engine photos, it has nothing whatsoever to do with the Chevy V-8 of the same displacement. . Lots going on here - closest to us is the still-operational smog pump, another clue to the California heritage of this jeep. and the A/C compressor, and the 327 AMC V-8 underneath! . That very unusual looking air cleaner is the original and correct item! . And the piece de resistance, the icing on the cake, is this engine valvecover sticker - which tells us that this is none other than a JEEP 327 V-8 VIGILANTE !!!!!! . Gilroy - Marx-Duff. And both license plates on this car from new. . . Solid California Undercarriage. I found 2 spots of rust / repair at the very forward edge of the floorboards, but the rest of the truck is so solid I think we have to forgive it a bit! . the original glovebox door and clock, in case you want to send the CB radio back to the 1970's . Original Hubcaps are included. we don't have the original wheels though. . A great truck!
