1970 Jaguar XKE Series II Coupe 4-Speed

1970 Jaguar E-Type

Up for sale is my dad’s1970 Jaguar XKE Series II Coupe, 4.2L Inline Six, 4 speed classic sports car. This E-type sits all original without any modifications with 32,800 on the odometer. The vehicle is currently non-running due primarily to lack of use.

Known history:
The vehicle was purchased locally, in August of 2000 and was just a weekend fun car my dad would take us out in or for going to events around town. The most I ever remember my dad driving the car was 20 minutes or less because he was always fearful of it overheating which I think is a common E-Type problem. Around 2002 the vehicle's brakes began getting soft and unresponsive and that was about the time the vehicle began to just sit in the garage unused. In 2006 the vehicle was brought back out and fired up and that was the last time I remember hearing it run.
In 2011 my dad and I decided as a college graduate gift to make it our project to get the car roadworthy and we had the vehicle towed to Chequered Flag Automotive in north Atlanta to replace all the brake hoses and give a general inspection of the car, which I have included those mechanic notes in the pictures.
Ultimately Chequered wanted to do a full restore which we declined. Interest waned on taking the project on and the vehicle has sat in storage since then. The vehicle has been transported twice due to moves but has been in a garage in the Chattanooga area since purchased.

Here is everything I have inspected on the car that I see as “in good condition” for a 53 year old car:

• The vehicle has no structural rust or damage.

• All wires, connections and hoses are all intact with no damage such as chewed wires or corrosion.

• The interior is 95% intact and in great condition. The floor carpet is gone, there is a leather tear in the driver side entry, the leather seats are cracked with some stitching coming undone and the rear hinge door latch is gone (I believe it bent at some point and was removed).

• Floor boards and tub are in amazing shape, no rust to be seen!

• Parking brake, steering, doors and windows all work

• Oil is in the car and the car has never visibility leaked any fluids

• No cracks in glass and most of the rubber seals are amazingly still intact however I would bet most all seals are very deteriorated due to age

• Vehicle shifts fine and clutch engages

• Exhaust and undercarriage look great with minor surface rust on some of the suspension

• Wire wheels all look to be in great condition, tires hold air and vehicle has a wire wheel spare with tire

• I have run a magnet across the entire body of the car and have found no filler or repairs due to damage.

• The vehicles rubber brake lines are pretty dry rotted and look to have completely leaked out at some point. I do not see any brake fluid in the reservoir and the brakes go all the way to the floor with no pressure.

• I have not tried to open the rear hatch

• The rear hatch window seal is starting to delaminate due to seals being corroded (included in pictures)

• The back side windows also have pretty corroded rubber seals (included in pictures)

• There is one small dent I have included in the pictures on the rear driver side fender.

• There are some surficial scratches on the front driver side fender and some other small marks on the paint.

• The hood vents do have flakes of paint chipped off, see pictures

• Rust exists in corners and odd spots around the car but again for its age the rust is pretty superficial in my opinion

• The vehicle has not been started since 2006, but I do fondly remember it running and very confident a decently proficient mechanic can get it going with minimal effort!
