History of the 1959 Jaguar XK150 SE Roadster:
Boasting from the success of the XK120, Jaguar did what all great sports car manufacturers do which was contribute new features to counter criticisms in order to continue attracting in buyers. This led to the introduction of a larger interior cabin space by moving the engine, firewall, and dash all forward by 3" to better accommodate a variety of drivers, along with effortless rack/pinion steering, improved brakes and suspension travel with shock-absorbing dampening. Cosmetically it appeared nearly the same as the XK120, but larger bumpers with over-riders, a one-piece grille accented with trim that ran over the hood through to the deck lid for the revised XK140. By 1958, after consecutive Leman's success from 1955, 1956, and 1957, a new Jaguar XK150 would be introduced. This meant some revisions to the body that included a taller beltline, larger interior, leather-wrapped dashboard, a one-piece windshield, and for the first time in the open two-seater (OTS), roll-up windows that were hidden within the doors. A new emblem was affixed to the trunk highlighting its heritage of being the proud winner at Le Mans from 1951-1953, 1955-1957!
Details about this 1959 Jaguar XK150 SE Roadster For Sale:
For sale, with financing available, is a 1959 Jaguar XK150 SE Roadster that is finished in highly desired Carmen Red with new black leather interior, along with a new black cloth convertible top. This exceptional Jaguar example comes from longtime Indianapolis owner, Tom G., who acquired this convertible XK150 in the 1970s, during which time commissioned a cosmetic restoration. The vehicle has remained original by continuing to bear a wonderfully solid chassis and body without any noted damage or rust repair thanks to careful care and storage over the years. Tom enjoyed his XK150 until personal health issues forced him to sale in 2014. Prior to putting his prized possession on the market, he asked Jaguar restoration experts Muncie Imports & Classics in Muncie, Indiana to prepare the gently used Jaguar for the next owner. This began with a complete overhaul of the brake system: new brake servo, brake lines, fittings, hoses, and brake fluid; new Dayton chrome wire wheels & tires; air filter, complete ignition system with new plugs & wires; new transmission fluid, engine oil/filter; cam cover gaskets, all coolant/heater hoses; cylinder head gasket, exhaust manifold gaskets; new differential pinion seal & gasket; differential input flange, clutch hose, among many other various smaller items to ensure it would be equally enjoyable for the next owner. This service would equal nearly $8,400.
Following the sale in 2014, the new owner of Jefferson City, MO elected to have the body professionally repainted which entailed the complete removal of all of the exterior chrome that was then re-plated. In addition, the convertible top was replaced with a new, black Stayfast canvass over a freshly powder-coated frame. The entire exhaust was replaced as well with a polished stainless steel system from Engel Imports. Overall, this ready to drive Jaguar remains highly presentable today and is in overall remarkable condition! With all functional gauges and working safety items in tacts, it is a difficult car to criticize mechanically due to the fact that it starts with true ease, idles down appropriately after about one minute of warm-up time, and then performs to proper Jaguar expectation! To ensure this British classic continues to perform its best both batteries were replaced in January 2019, along with a new starter solenoid and ignition switch.
Additionally, the vehicle also comes with its original painted spare tire, correct jack, mallet, wrench, crank handle, and oiler in the storage compartment. Upon arrival at the St. Louis Car Museum, the odometer read only 40,542 miles which would appear to be all original, but there is not enough evidence to support an actual mileage claim. For sale is a 50s Jaguar Convertible that happens to represent 1 of only 2,265 Open Two-Seater XK150 Roadsters built between 1958 through 1960, which continues to be a splendid driver that is eager to cruise all open roads with confidence!
