Built along four distinct groups through the end of production in 1974 the E-Type consistently maintained its lean purposeful appearance and outstanding performance. While several noticeable differences were heralded by the updated 1968 models Jaguar never officially referred to them as 'Series 1.5' unlike today's collectors. Most noticeably the former covered headlamps were switched to more visible open headlamps. Retaining the 4.2-liter DOHC 'six' introduced late in the first series the Series 1.5 cars now utilized twin Zenith-Stromberg carburetors; although horsepower output dropped slightly the new carburetors were easier to tune than the old SU units. Inside passenger room was improved and the prior aircraft-style toggle switches were replaced by rockers. In short the careful and steady evolution of the E-Type meant that buyers of the 'Series 1.5' cars in 1968 enjoyed an improved more comfortable and reliable Jaguar than ever before.
