Detailed description of project:

Provenance –This is a Jaguar E-Type “Fixed-Head Coupe” or “FHC” – which is the smaller and more desirable 2-seat coupe (not the 4-seat “2+2”). It was built in March of 1968, and originally delivered in Carmen Red with a Black leather interior. This is a FULL matching numbers car - EVERYTHING is original to this car, and all numbers have been checked.

Color Scheme -This is an original Carmen Red coupe with a Black leather interior.

Driveability -By the time this E-Type was built in March of 1968, ALL of the kinks in the E-Type design were worked out. This car has the larger displacement 4.2-liter engine, with the reliable alternator charging system. The gearbox is the later full-synchro 4-speed. The braking system has the remote power booster, and the cooling system is the later twin-fan radiator which works MUCH better! Even the seats are the more comfortable 4.2 design - that fold forward AND recline a bit as well - allowing more room and comfort for taller drivers.

History -This E-Type was purchased by the previous owner in 1982, and driven daily for about 2 years. It was then taken off the road and stored indoors because of rust where the radius arms meet the floors - which is VERY typical... The owner then finally decided to tackle that rust several years later, and spent the Spring and Summer of 1992 very carefully disassembling the car - labeling, bagging, and even dating the components as they were removed. Then life got in the way, and the car just sat in his very clean and dry garage while he raised his family and got involved with racing other cars...

Mechanical Condition -The overall condition of the components is very good to excellent – with only 57,869 original miles. The engine spins free and very smoothly by hand - and this was a running and driving car when it was disassembled! The gearbox also spins freely and shifts into all gears. The car rolls freely with no seized brake calipers, and on and on it goes! Every nut and bolt that we worked with was free with good threads - that were still shiny! I can't stress enough - the condition of ALL of the components is GREAT! It will be a real pleasure to work on this one - and it's pretty clean too!

Cosmetic Condition -Components like the gauges, dash panels, radio console, etc. are in excellent condition and don't even need to be restored - just cleaned! The interior itself is still in good condition, and COULD be carefully cleaned and "restored" and then re-used for an interior with a nice original patina. The original leather seats are not torn, and only have some minimal fraying of the sewn seams - these seats could be restored with excellent results! The chrome is all present and in good restorable condition. 3 of the 4 bumper blades are good and just need rechroming - the RH front blade has been dented a bit and COULD be repaired by a good chrome shop as well. The rest of the chrome is in excellent original condition, and the oxidation on it can be cleaned off with minimal pitting remaining. I would personally clean and use ALL of the chrome (aside from the bumpers) as-is - it's THAT good! Finally, all of the glass is also excellent! The side windows and quarter windows are all original Triplex clear glass. The rear hatch glass is original Triplex "Sundym" light green tint - and is HEATED! The windshield is a replacement clear windshield - it is also excellent with no major scratches - and fits beautifully.

Body Condition -Overall, the body shell and bonnet of this E-Type is MUCH better than typical. There is rust in the outer and rear edges of the floors, and in the lower portions of the inner sills. It is all what I would call "textbook" E-Type rust, but to a much lesser degree than we usually see - it has not progressed into the front or rear bulkheads, which are excellent. There is also rust in the boot floor, and there have been previous repairs in the rear wheel arches before the one respray that is on the car. The doors appear to be in very good condition, and fit almost perfectly - the RH door IS a perfect fit, the LH door is very close, and only suffers from play in the door hinge itself. The bonnet has had some dents and dings in the past that have been repaired and filled, but nothing appears to have been catastrophic damage, and the overall shape is very good. It does not have any rust to speak of other than the hinge mounting points, which were rusted away - also very typical. We have repaired this just to get the bonnet on the car - I suggest replacement of the bonnet support member piece - which we can provide. Otherwise, I do not believe you will need any additional replacement panels for the bonnet.

Series 1 Conversion -Many customers choose to "backdate" Series 1.5 E-Types to Series 1 specs... The ONLY differences between this car and a 1967 Series 1 FHC are the open headlamps, 2 vs. 3 carburetors, cam cover design, and the interior rocker switches plus a few other interior details. We can help you convert some or even all of these details back to Series 1 specs if you like.

Restoration support by Monocoque Metalworks -I LOVE to see the E-Types I have rescued being brought back to life, and I am happy to help you with questions and support every step of the way! We can help you successfully restore the body shell and bonnet with our panels and knowledge, and you will receive a 20% discount on any panels purchased from Monocoque Metalworks. But we can also help answer LOTS of other questions about E-Type restoration, and if I don't know the answer, I know who DOES know, and can always point you in the right direction!

THIS IS A GREAT ONE! And - it is VERY Reasonably priced considering the provenance and the overall condition - Treat Yourself! Better act fast, though - they always go quick!

Jaguar E-Type Project Cars and Parts - Bought and Sold!
If you are looking for an E-Type project to restore, your search may be over!

At Monocoque Metalworks, we often find GOOD E-Type projects - and then find them GOOD homes with GOOD people! In fact, ALL of our past buyers AND sellers have remained close friends! THEN, we stick with you as a partner in the restoration, providing technical support throughout the duration of your project!
•E-Type Project Cars FOR SALE!- Our interaction with countless E-Type owners, restorers, and shops and suppliers puts us in touch with many orphaned and incomplete project cars. We rescue these E-Types from being parted out or scrapped, and bring them back to our shop, where they are combined with parts and pieces from our large stock of original parts to be a complete project car - ready for a new home!
•Our E-Type Projects are RESTORABLE!- Too often, we see E-type projects being offered that are, quite literally, unrestorable… Many times, cars that have been burned, wrecked, or are rotted beyond the point that is economically feasible to repair are sold to an overly optimistic restorer, only to have their dreams (and their bank account) shattered - when they find out they have purchased little more than a title… Here, we make sure you KNOW what you are getting - AND what you are GETTING INTO!
•Our E-Type Projects are COMPLETE and CORRECT!- Like everything else we do, rescuing orphaned E-Types is a labor of love, NOT a "get rich quick scheme"… Therefore, we work hard to make sure our project cars have the proper pieces for their Year, Series, and Model. We also pull together a project for you that is as complete as possible, but also DON'T "pad" the project with worn out, unrestorable parts that should always be replaced, like radiators, exhaust systems, etc. In addition, we serve as an invaluable resourcethroughout the build, helping you decide WHAT pieces to purchase new, and WHERE to source them!
•Our E-Type Projects CAN BE created to suit YOUR vision!- While we try to make all parts and pieces correct for each project, we can also tailor the project to suit your needs. For example, if you are building a high-performance driver, we can assemble your package with the better-performing Series 2 brakes, etc. Building an all-out racer?.. No problem! - we'll sell you a project that has justwhat you need for that and nothing more - and adjust the price accordingly!
•E-Type Parts and Pieces for sale!- As our business has grown over the years, so has our stock of original E-Type "used" parts. A lifetime of dragging home every E-Type and E-Type part I could find has left us with a warehouse full of original parts that is bursting at the seams! Most of these pieces will be used to complete the partial and orphaned E-Types mentioned above, but others are available to complete YOUR E-Type!
•E-Type Project Cars and Parts - WANTED!- If you have an orphaned E-Type project car, remains of a past Parts Car, extra spares left over from your restoration, or even a running & driving E-Type that needs a new, GOOD home - give me a call! Everything that gets dragged back here is stored indoors until it finds a new home - ON AN E-TYPE - that makes it ONTO THE ROAD! Take a look at some of our blog stories about the places we go and the people we meet in our search - then give us a call. I GUARANTEE you'll be pleasantly surprised by the honesty, sincerity, and ENTHUSIASM we put into everything we do! - Chuck Hadley
