1977 International Harvester Scout Traveller
Thank you for checking out my 1977 International Harvester Scout II traveler. MAKE ME AN OFFER ! :)I daily drive this truck for work and have spent about $15000 over the past two years rooting out all its issues and it runs and drives great. I drive every day about 60-80 miles, it cruises 80 MPH on the NJ turnpike without a problem.
Originally a California truck its now a rust free example in the northeast, where I’ve owned it for a couple years.
Here's a rundown, everything is documented and professionally done:
-Professionally Rebuilt 345 V-8 engine installed 35,000 miles ago.
-410 gears with OX lockers front and rear. Special Low/Low gears
-Dana 44 differentials with added support trusses and pumpkin rock guards welded on.
-Rancho leaf springs, bushings, shocks and body lift
-33" tires which are still new k02's the absolute best on/off road tires.
-Additional set of Nitto(?) Mud track tires (barely used as I never really off road or crawl too busy with work)
-Power steering and power brakes. with brand new brake booster.
-Front disc, rear drum, like new.
-Extra electric fan on radiator for hot days.
-Full Size Spare
-33 gallon rock proof gas tank for long off-road trips and ensuring no garbage in fuel from an old tank
-Front heavy-duty custom made push bumper with built-in 140 PSI air tank holds enough air to drop all tires 20 psi and bring back up.
-Heavy-duty rear bumper with High jack which can hold 5 gallons of spare motor oil.
-Both front and rear bumpers have a trailer hitch which accepts a Warn M6000 winch (included in custom holder in bed, near tailgate) which is wired for front, or rear bumper with remote hand held control.
-Hidden lockable large compartment under rear folding bench seat.
-Padded four point roll bar with center utility light.
-Fully convertible with a Softopper roof. Rear and side panels can be rolled up in the summer for more breeze while keeping shade overhead.
-Interior floor and side panels are coated with bedliner so the interior can be washed out with a garden hose after trail or camping trips.
-Aux Jack input for phone audio
-Like new professionally rebuilt Chrysler Torqueflite Trans and transfer case
-All new fluids as of about 300 miles ago (still daily drive it)
-New Windshield Wiper motor, New Wiper reservoir pump
-LED's all around Super bright headlights courtesy CREE LED's
-Probably more minor stuff I'm forgetting like the steering weld fix that scouts all need, little gremlin stuff thats been sorted. new carburetor, filters, etc etc.
I put my money into the mechanics of this vehicle, not the body or "looks".
My goal was a killer truck, but if you want to, the hard work has been done, and for a few bucks it could be show ready with a fancy paint job and new seats.
Everything works. All marker lights and dash gauges are original and functional. All bolt on pumps and pulleys were new when motor was replaced.
Keep in mind this is a classic V-8 International. It is heavy duty farm equipment style.
There are two downsides: first is that I removed the AC and cruise control units when I changed out the engine seven years ago. The other is that it honestly needs a new exhaust, there are a few small leaks, it runs just fine, and really its purely an aesthetic thing.
This vehicle is just plain fun to drive.
At 13k this is a great deal. I paid 8k for the truck, shipped it for 900 out east, and spent about 15k getting it to be as tight as possible mechanically. Also as a side note, beware "pretty" trucks with no mechanical substance. That 2k paint job isnt going to get you through a trail or back to your garage.
