1956 Ford Customline #2457
Bill France, the president of NASCAR, was quoted as saying, "The one thing you can't take away from Ford is that they have the best steel in the entire industry regardless of price." He was referring to the fact that under the terrible beatings of stock car racing, Ford cars break fewer axles, wheels, frames and front-end assemblies than any other make.
For consignment we present the 1956 Ford Customline. This two-toned custom interior and a slight bit of modern touches thrown in for giggles car is a true retro throwback in many ways. A very nice overall restoration which even includes the undercarriage. Grab your cigs and put them in your sleeve, grab your girl by the poodle skirt and bring her closer to the center of the bench seat and here we come, drive in. A well bless my soul? What's wrong with me? I'm itchin' like a man on a fuzzy tree... My friends say I'm actin' weird as a bug, I'm in love....I'm all shook up.....
Mm mm mm, mm, yay, yay, yay.
Exterior
Utilizing quintessential 50's color scheme, that being blue and white this car lets the Fairlane swoop do the talking as to brooders of that paint. Above is white, and below is blue. We will put blue on the roof just to break it up a little more. Speaking of breaking up there's plenty of chrome trimmings to feast your eyes upon which involve the window surrounds, snazzy 50's style outside mirrors, and 15-inch chrome Torque Thrust wheels. Bumpers, bezels, grille have a powder coated look with a gray metallic paint which is shiny in its own way. On back we see some slight use of fins and the Thunderbird round taillights. Chromed exhaust tips sneak out from underneath the metallic painted bumper. Noted are just some slight areas of underlying rust in the form of bubbles in the paint, mainly on the door panels.
Interior
Gray broadcloth with some light blue crazing pattern on it has formed itself into tuck and roll inserts, and this is surrounded by white vinyl. All very clean with no smudges or tears. In back is a similar style bench but this time presenting with armrests, and a gold thread embroidered "Lost in the 50's" middle panel in white vinyl. The dash is also two tone blue and white but instead of the original gauges, Speedhut white faced gauges have replaced the originals. The speedo has a digital mileage readout, and GPS (NESW) panel. All these have blue bezels and sit within a white field. An aftermarket drilled trim spoke wheel in chrome and blue surround banding mixes well with the dash. A retro style radio with satellite capabilities is yet another modern touch of convenience. Blue carpet floods the floors and some interesting purple LED interior floor lights show the way at night. Sitting proudly on the hump is a Lokar shifter with a machined knob atop. Covering the interior roof is a nice tight white headliner.
Drivetrain
A healthy 302ci V8 replaces the original engine and is topped with an Edelbrock 4-barrel carburetor. On the back is a 3-speed C4 automatic transmission, which throws power rearward to a 3.22 axle.
Undercarriage
All well done and buttoned up under here, where we note no rust, nice shiny metal surfaces, solid frame and all components working fine. Independent coil springs up front, and a leaf spring suspension on the back with drum brakes all around are seen. Well she touched my hand, what a chill I got!
Drive-Ability
A turn of the key and she fires right up, and it sounds great. Flicking the Lokar floor shifter into D we D-part for the test track. This car runs nicely, has decent acceleration, and good handling. Brakes are also good for mechanical drums. With the long bench seat, my colleague decoder and test driver wanted to move over closer to his driver, but I did not allow this, bench seat or no bench seat, it ain't gonna happen!
A nicely presenting car that is the beneficiary of a job well done. In keeping its originality, the few modernizations are just icing on this 50's cake and give it just a bit more drivability with convenience. Great color scheme, custom interior, and a smooth runner. 1956 never looked so good! Her lips are like a volcano when it's hot... I'm proud to say that she's my buttercup, I'm in love ....I'm all shook up Mm mm mm, mm, yay, yay, yay!
