Mustang 1990 25th Anniversary - Fox body
1990 Ford Mustang
General information:-
To celebrate the Mustang's 25th anniversary, all Mustangs manufactured between April 17, 1989 and April 17, 1990 received a dash plate decorated with a galloping pony badge, the three tri-bars and 25th anniversary stamped at its bottom. They also had a window sticker/invoice with a running pony and tri-bar logo and "25 Years" watermark. After April 1990, the badge on the dash was changed to just the running pony and the tri-bar without the 25th anniversary stamp.. However, although these two years were "limited production" editions, that fact that FORD placed a special plate on the dash for a limited time to differentiate these cars from others in these two years attests to their being somewhat special.
There were no earth shattering modifications this year's Fox body Mustang.
In 1990, a limited run of 4,103 emerald green exterior, and white leather interior 5.0 LX convertibles, and a limited run of 5,897 silver exterior, and grey interior 5.0 GT hatchbacks were produced for a contest held by 7-Up, but the contest was cancelled at the last second. Collectors refer to these cars as 7-up cars. However Ford used these cars to promote the 25th anniversary of the Mustang. Besides the color, they also received a handling suspension and power top accessories. Of these cars, 1,360 had 5 speeds, while 2,743 had automatics. 261 were exported the remainder were sold in the USA.
Fuel economy was 15-22 mpg and when combined with the standard 15.4 gallon fuel tank the driving range was quite adequate. The Mustang's turning circle was 41.2 feet.
The following were feature changes in 1990:-
- The driver received an airbag.
- The fuel filler door was no longer unlocked by a button inside the glove box door.
- The LX model got 140 MPH speedometers.
- The LX got a drivers foot rest.
- They removed the armrest on the console and added map pockets on the doors.
- The tilt steering wheel was no longer offered.
- Drivers side air bags were installed in the pony car.
- Shoulder belts for rear passengers became standard
- Headrests for front seats became standard
- If manufactured before April 17, 1990 there was a galloping pony emblem on the dash commemorating the Mustang's 25th anniversary
