Description:
1970 Ford Mustang Mach 1
Glance at the Mustang market and you'll see what's going on. Shelbys are already priced out-of-sight, the Boss 429s are pretty much there too, and the Boss 302 is well entrenched into six-figure territory. That leaves the Mach 1 as the Next Big Thing in the Mustang world, so get a good one like this cool M-code 1970 Mach 1 and enjoy your sportsroof Ford Mustang while it continues to steadily appreciate each and every year.Expertly restored to its original specs, the owners knew this Mach 1 would be worth more in stock condition rather than dressed up and retooled as someone's fantasy car. As a result, the code M White paint was expertly mixed up and applied to the car's sheetmetal skin, albeit rendered in modern materials to give it a fantastic shine. The bodywork is great as well and you won't be ashamed to pull this one into the local cruise night, but it's not so nice that you'll be afraid to drive it, so it's still a wonderful road machine. The blacked-out hood with the Shaker scoop, the hood pins, the subtle kick-up on the tail along with winged spoiler up top, and matching finned lower cladding all make the '70 Mustang Mach 1 one of the best-looking ponies ever built. All the chrome and brightwork bits took a trip to the plating shop, so they're bright and shiny, and correct black decals and emblems were installed to complete the restoration, finishing off this beautifully designed fastback.
The interior was correctly restored using accurate reproductions of the original black vinyl seat covers. With the Mach 1's mission of being both a performance car and a somewhat luxurious grand tourer, the woodgrained panels for the dash and door panels seem appropriate and there's a handsome center console adorned with as well, adding some extra storage and an armrest, all nicely finished, of course. The original 3-spoke steering wheel works well with the overall look without calling too much attention to itself and the Hurst 8-ball knob for the 4-speed manual transmission falls to hand easily. Just ahead of it is an older Kenwood AM/FM/Cassette player, so that might be a good place for an easy upgrade, but that's just about the only thing lacking on the car. The optional fold-down back seat makes this almost a practical muscle car with room for two real-sized people or a few weeks' worth of gear. Pop the deck lid and you'll find a tidy trunk with no stories to scare away a new owner, featuring a carpeted floor and a covered spare tire.
The engine is a correct M-code 351 cubic inch Cleveland V8, which was a factory 4V motor that pumped out 300 BHP. But that wasn't quite enough power for the former owner, so when it was rebuilt to correct M-code specs, an upgrade cam was added for a little added punch and cool lope. The lightweight small block makes this Mach 1 an adept corner carver and still delivers plenty of low-end torque to dig out of turns. It's beautifully finished in Ford Blue, and topped with correct finned valve covers and that killer Shaker hood, and if it weren't for the modern A/C compressor (part of a full Vintage A/C unit that blows ice cold), it would be 100% stock. Even the reproduction AutoLite battery is in place! It's been extensively maintained so it runs great and needs nothing to be enjoyed immediately. Thanks to a reproduction dual exhaust system with chambered mufflers, it has a ripping exhaust note that every Mustang fan will recognize. Managing all that horsepower is a RUG-AV1 option 4-speed manual and with highway-friendly 3.25 gears in the Traction-Lok 9-inch rear end, it strikes just the right balance between acceleration and easy cruising. Beautiful Magnum 500 wheels look exactly right on the Mach 1, and wear 235/60/15 BFGoodrich white-letter radials to finish the performance look.
Fully restored and documented with a Marti Report, owner's manual, and factory buildsheet, this real-deal M-code Mach 1 is a beauty that can only become more valuable as the years go on. Call today!
