1970 Ford Torino Cobra SCJ Drag Pack 4.30 Detroit Locker ULTRA RARE! (1 of 207)
1970 Ford Torino Cobra
Up for auction is a meticulously restored 1970 Ford Torino Cobra true barn find. This Ford is the rarest of the rare when it comes to 1970 muscle cars. Your future Torino Cobra is 1 of only 207 Super Cobra Jet(J code) motors produced, with the Drag Pack option, that was also paired to the insane 4.30 Detroit Locker rear end. This beast was a factory produced dragster!
No expense was spared in its 3 year concours-quality restoration. The vehicle looks like new from every angle; the bottom of the car looks as impeccable as the Calypso Coral paint job (note the correct red oxide primer bottom, correctly coated fasteners, and even factory balance stripes on the driveshaft). The trunk was as immaculately detailed as the engine bay. The fresh chrome is bright and beautiful. The factory correct chalk marks, stamps, labels and stickers are all there. The interior looks like you just walked into a Ford dealership in 1970.
Here's the backstory, a true barn find in every sense of the term, and 100% all numbers matching. Stored away in a hay barn in North Dakota in 1974, this SCJ Torino Cobra was discovered in 2010 by the grandson of the original owner. The car was found nearly complete, with its 32,000 original documented miles, its 100% all numbers matching engine, transmission, 9 inch rear end, VIN plate, fender tags, Holley carburetor (and even the original 1974 license plate) were intact. This Ford has low enough miles to still be covered by the full factory warranty, if the time limit hadn't already expired. In spite of its years in isolation and lack of attention, this Torino was in considerably good condition and retains ALL of its original sheet metal, with the exception of the floor pans. The factory stamped replacement pans were installed after hours of research, so that the original factory spot welds were properly replicated. Every component on this vehicle was meticulously restored during its 3 year concours restoration. Hundreds of hours of research went into the restoration to ensure everything was put back the way that this car would have rolled off the Lorain assembly line back in March of 1970.

The condition of this vehicle is phenomenal. Every surface was correctly restored to like new. The paint job is a 10/10…just look at the reflection captured in the closeup photo of the decklid. This Torino has always been properly maintained and stored. Note that the bottom pics of the car show that it looks as good as the topside. It drives like new. Truly, no expenses were spared in the restoration. The engine and transmission were completely redone and to original factory specs, all mechanicals were restored to perfect working order, and all electrical systems work flawlessly. Even the wiring harness was properly restored using period-correct wrap and Ford engineering tags throughout. Every stage of this restoration was done to the highest of standards, and it shows. This 1970 Ford Torino Cobra is a drop dead gorgeous award winner. It's always the top prize winner at car shows, including the famous World of Wheels.
This is your opportunity to own one of the rarest Ford muscle cars ever produced, and probably the best restoration example at that. A car so rare, that Kevin Marti even called me personally to talk about the vehicle after I took ownership. Don't get me wrong, the 429SCJ J-code Torino is very rare with only a few thousand examples produced. But only 207 of those SCJ's were paired in the factory with the 4.30 Detroit Locker rear end, made to get up and get down a quarter-mile track! The vehicle is available for inspection, which I highly recommend prior to the conclusion of this auction. I assure you that you will not be disappointed. No time or money was spared during this restoration and no shortcuts were taken. Either the original componentswere restored, NOS replacements were found or a limited number of Ford spec'd and licensed reproduction parts were used. For example, the original, correct part number cast impeller was reused on the rebuilt date-correct original water pump, not some cheap stamped steel blade. It's not something you can see when you look at the car, but you KNOW that the car was done correctly.During the engine rebuild, an exact replacement cam was ground for this restoration by Holman Moody, Ford's SCJ cam shaft supplier back in 1970. They literallydug up the original drawings and cut a fresh cam. The original, date-correct power steering pump was rebuilt in the Indianapolis Ford plant that built the pump back in 1970.Even the gauge cluster was sent out for fresh "Pistachio green" silk screening and vacuum chroming, along with the remaining interior parts. The list goes on and on and on. Again, nothing was spared to bring this car back to dealer showroom new condition. This Torino also comes with LOADS of documentation, including the original title, original Eminger factory invoice, original owner’s manual, Marti report, window sticker, sales brochures, all receipts from the restoration and hundreds of photos throughout the process.
The winning bidder will be responsible for immediate deposit of $1000 USD (within 24 hours of auction end). The remaining balance will need to be bank wired within 10 business days. I am not a dealer. This is from my personal vehicle collection. I have the title in hand. Also note that this Torino has never been for sale before. This is the first and only offering. This is your chance to own one of the best muscle cars ever produced! Please contact me if you have any questions and I’ll be happy to help in any way that I can.
Take care and thank you for looking!
Happy bidding.
