Description:
1965 Ford Galaxie 500 XL
I bought the car about three years ago. The engine was full of sludge, had caught fire, quarters were rusted, it was in bad shape. Now it is rust free and has fresh paint. The 6.4L 390 engine was rebuilt and we installed a rebuilt 4 speed top-loader in place of the automatic trans. Front end was also rebuilt. New radiator and gas tank too. Also has new wheels and tires and re-chromed bumpers. Basically everything except rear and side glass and taillights and window stainless are new or rebuilt. You can see the side and rear glass looks old and the stainless should be brighter.
You'll also notice the exterior side stainless/chrome is shaved and hood and trunk nosed and decked except for the original dealer badge on trunk and 390 badge on front fenders.
Interior is white diamond stitched vinyl with black carpet, dash, rear deck, and inserts. Inside chrome trim is a little rough.
I wouldn't say this is a show car because I drive it around on weekends and it's always good to go. The only time it's been on a trailer is when I bought it because it wasn't running or anything. Now I wouldn't hesitate to take it on a four hour road trip and have driven it in the city when it's 110 outside. It gets tons of looks and sparks a lot of conversation at shows when I stop by or just cruising down the street. Everyone likes the Ned Jarrett NASCAR look and straight pipe sound.
I'm not one of those "it will cost more to build" guys, so ask questions or make offers.
If the site allows, here are some videos, alsohere, of the car running and driving.
