1970 Ford Bronco 4x4 dry western high desert survivor Sport Explorer Ranger 4wd
1970 Ford Bronco
For sale: 1970 Bronco 4x4 low mile solid truck with factory 302 V8. Sold new in dry southern Idaho at Montpelier, and lived in the high desert near Soda Springs. Original owner was a surveyor who owned and cared for it for many years and ultimately sold to a classic car dealer in Twin Falls. I purchased from that dealer, who was using it as his parts runner and casual driver. This classic early Bronco has not been lifted, mudded, or hooned. I recently found an equally dry California 76 Bronco Ranger with automatic, power steering and brakes, which I prefer, so this one is up for grabs.
Exterior: Combination of original and older respray, good looking driver as is with some nice patina, Will need repaint for serious show duty. A few dings, mainly on hood and driver front fender. Paint has worn thin on front fender tops. Like most early Broncos, the rear fenders were cut out for larger tires and flares added. Fronts are uncut, white stripe along lower body is not paint, but vinyl. Truck has none of the typical Bronco major rot/cancer, only surface rust on floors(with a thin line of rust thru at front of passenger side) and a few small blisters on lower body. It's had a rust repair to driver front floor and driver outer rocker, otherwise original metal. See pics in linked Photobucket album for detailed pics including underside. A refreshing change from the sitting-at-the-bottom-of-a-lake Broncos so often seen back east. There are a couple of holes in roof from light used by original surveyor owner. Late model Bronco alloy wheels are in very good condition with no corrosion or pitting. Extra bolt was added to secure spare tire, and spare tire cable needs replacement. Overall really nice driver quality rig that will pull compliments and offers at every gas station or coffee shop.Interior: Good looking driver quality. Partial respray on the inside and seat upholstery has been redone, an inexpensive job, but looks good. Would need re-do with OEM covers for serious show duty. Gauges all work, as does speedometer and parking brake. Horn(aftermarket) and wipers work, and all lights work except one front turn signal. Heater blower switch failed and was moved to small toggle switch. Defrost cable is stuck and radio is non-op. Rear window tint is stick-on and can be removed. Nice presentable driver.
Mechanical: Starts great, runs very well, and drives out fine. I believe mileage is correct at 84k. No noises or smoke or major leaks. I took the truck to a professional mechanic for inspection when I bought it, and he was impressed with how solid the drivetrain is. He didn't like brake pedal feel, so installed a new(not reman) master cylinder and bled and adjusted brakes. Will need further attention though as it does pull a bit when you stab the pedal at speed. Dealer replaced the clutch and while the motor was out, repainted engine and engine bay, and replaced some engine seals. He also added a Performer intake and carb for a bit more zip. Really pulls strong. Does have a few small typical old 4x4 leaks, nothing horrible. Needs shocks for sure, and probably front end alignment. Like most short wheelbase early Broncos with larger tires, it doesn't drive as smooth as a modern rig. It's good on smooth roads, but on rutted roads it does pitch around a bit. Runs cool and doesn't heat. I ran the truck in 2 hi, 4 hi and 4 low and 4x4 works. Late model Bronco alloy wheels are in excellent condition and 31 x 10.50 x 15 tires have very good tread with a few small weather cracks. Original wheels will be included, boxed up and in the truck when shipped. Newer dual exhaust sounds throaty without being obnoxious. Optima red top battery. Good driver as is, with a little sorting could be used as a reliable daily rig.
Pricing/Misc: If you've been watching early Bronco prices lately, you know they're nuts. My reserve is low for quick sale, about half what I see on the web for comparable trucks. Low cost shipping to is available andprobably less expensivethan fixing an East Coast or Midwest tetanus truck. This rig runs fine, but I would not recommend flying in and driving it cross country, it's an old truck and stuff happens. Cell phone coverage is not great in this part of the country, and it's a long way between towns. Montana title is clear and open with no liens. Vintage Idaho plates shown, and a set of Montana plates will be included. Buyer should get insurance when funds are sent. Outdoor storage is available for 30 days, after that a $100 per month fee will be charged.

GOOD LUCK! Keep in mindthat with all cars and trucks, they look better in pics than in person. This is a 1970 vehicle, and is not a new truck. Classic cars and trucks are old. If you haven't fooled with classic trucks before, adjust your expectations accordingly.
