Vinyl Interior SELLER REMARKS This handsome and unusual 1968 Ford Custom 2-door sedan is the kind of honest. solid car that gets a lot of attention at local shows. Most folks probably haven't seen one. and with smooth V8 power and a big. spacious interior. it's the perfect car for long highway trips. You might even call this big Ford a bit of a sleeper. because there's plenty of horsepower on tap and the unassuming bodywork definitely helps it keep a low profile. Wimbledon White is a favorite Ford color and it works as well here as it does on Mustangs. and it's also this car's original color. It was repainted at some point and has a nice shine that suits the big cruiser. offering a well-maintained look that has its own charm. The bodywork is quite straight and cars like this don't have much of an aftermarket for replacement parts. so it's a pretty sure bet that the hardware is original. The doors fit well. the long hood snugs down without a fight. and the slight kick-up in the quarter panels gives this otherwise formal sedan a sporting look much like the Fairlane. In profile. you can almost see some Thunderbird DNA. and with a black vinyl roof. the car's size is cleverly masked. making it look agile and light. Nice chrome highlights both the front and rear ends. as Ford designers weren't afraid of bright trim. but it's pretty light on badging and emblems. so be prepared for questions everywhere you go. The interior is stylish and inviting. with attractive woven vinyl upholstery that's both comfortable and durable. The bench seat arrangement allows this Ford to carry six passengers in relative comfort and the interior does appear to be all original on this car. The dash features a wide speedometer but little else beyond a fuel gauge. but with a big V8 and automatic transmission. there wasn't much more that you needed to know. Fortunately. someone has thoughtfully added a trio of auxiliary gauges under the dash. which help keep an eye on the warmed-over 5. 0. er. 302 under the hood. It's basic. without so much as an AM radio. but that's a big part of this car's appeal and speaks directly to its role as a sleeper. The upholstery and carpets are in great shape and the back seat looks almost new. And yes. there's a giant trunk. complete with a full-sized spare up on its own little shelf. The engine is a 302 cubic inch V8 that dates to 1992. which means a lot of updates over the original engine. It's sharply and correctly dressed in Ford Blue paint and there's enough chrome under the hood to tell you that the owner knew where his priorities lie. An open element air cleaner wears a 302 decal and there's an oversized radiator to keep it clean. Long-tube headers feed a custom dual exhaust system that sounds suspiciously familiar to 5. 0 Mustang guys. and the crisp-shifting C4 3-speed automatic transmission is a willing conspirator in your quest for speed. The underside is almost completely original. but that's a good thing here. and the luxury car ride will make you look forward to your trip home. Unassuming 215/75/15 whitewall radials on shiny chrome wheels are the only external clue that it isn't 1968 anymore. An unusual car that runs great and attracts attention. all for a bargain price!
