1990 Dodge Ram Van B350

Vehicle Details

This is a 1990 Dodge B350 3/4 Ton van powered by the 5.2L V8 and built into a 192TB Coach House Class B RV. It has 126,378 miles, is 33 years old and it is not in perfect condition by any means-so please don’t be expecting such in this example of a vehicle. Some of the interior amenities have been modified/removed by a previous owner due to maneuverability issues and age-and you can see the changes in the photos.

Here’s the “issues” inside-

Original carpeting is faded and worn.

Many of the interior lights are not functioning.

The interior RV headliner/padding is in need of attention.

The water closet and cabinet that was just inside the side cargo doors had been removed and sadly the remainder of furniture is painted black.

The kitchen sink has been modified with an auxiliary 12v water spigot/pump. There is no microwave. The original refrigerator is gone with a regular 110v “dorm” fridge in place. Photos show the physical appearance and condition accurately. There’s no rodent or water damage inside the vehicle.

The “good” on the inside is that the front seats rotate, slide and recline like they should and are as comfortable as a seasoned LazyBoy. The dash and center doghouse are in really good shape and there’s an aftermarket Pioneer radio (original also included). The AC is cold-but not ICE cold. The power windows work nicely and all the driver controls work but the cruise control does not seem to be working at this time. All the exterior lighting works although the dash indicator for the right signal is not illuminating (bad bulb?).

“ISSUES” On the exterior-

There appears to have been a roof rack on the top fiberglass shell that has been removed without any great attention given to sealing the mounting point holes. There’s also a hole that was poorly plugged where an old vent came through (2” maybe) that should be dealt with better-but it’s not a gaping hole allowing water in). There is no roof vent-that again must have been damaged and rather than replacing it-a poor “cover” was put over the hole. The fiberglass roof is otherwise in pretty decent shape with no cracks or impact damage. The paint on the van itself is weathered and like many early 90’s vehicles from US manufactures-the white paint is thin and not in great shape. The vinyl decals are in poor condition and in my opinion would be best removed. There is some surface rust showing through on the roof gutter at the rear corners (I won’t know why there were no drain holes in the gutters-but is obvious water collected at the back corners). There is some rust starting on the passenger side lower rear part of the quarter behind the rear wheel as well as just forward of the wheel and at the bottom of the side cargo doors. There are some spots of rust at the top of the windshield corners (common dodge issue) where the body panels were built together. There’s a few other random small spots of surface rust and thin paint and chips here and there. There’s also some rust starting at the rear barn door corners and bottom seam as well as near the top door edge where the ladder mounted and wore through the paint. Speaking of the ladder-personally I wouldn’t recommend climbing it. There are two small chips in the windshield-but no cracks or scratches.

The exterior appears aged but not bad for the year of the vehicle. In the photos the vehicle is bone dry and not wet like some sellers like to show to create the image of fake gloss on the paint.

The tires are all 2020 manufactured and quality Load Range E Kelly radials are the proper size on aftermarket alloy 8-lug wheels. The tires look to barely have any miles on them and have no issues at all. The spare is older and in good shape if needed for use. The fiberglass running boards are all sturdy-but also suffer from paint clearcoat failure. The running boards are sound and can be stepped on for entry without issue.

The underside is in good shape ang all the original plumbing tanks are intact it seems-but their usability is unknown. Also-there is an Onan generator mounted onboard underfloor just inside the rear barn door. It runs-and it operates off the same tank that feeds the vans engine. There is a line that comes off the tank just for the generator with a filter and it would be wise to install a new filter and give the generator a tune up as it runs but then seems to have a starvation issue. There is also a 12v battery just for the rear RV system and I’m not fully sure of the condition of that system. The original 12v water pump is still onboard and I do not think it would be too hard to get plumbing systems back in check and useable-but I would recommend everything be gone through. I have not plugged the van into a shore power line yet-but will try to this week.

Now that we have gotten that all out of the way-I want everyone to know that this is a nearly 34 year old camper. It DOES however travel down the road nicely and drives smoothly at 70mph. Today we drove it about 40 miles to shake the bugs out of it and on the freeway it was pleasant to drive with no mechanical issues. All the necessary garages were reading healthy levels and there are no engine/trans leaks. It would be my opinion that treating this RV like it should be, that it would travel cross country without any major headaches. HOWEVER-I cannot make any guarantees just like Kia and Hyundai can’t make any guarantees in reliability of their new cars. This IS a cool RV that could potentially be rehabbed to be suitable to any level orcstandards of the next owner. There is no structural rust but what is present is less than common for a Wisconsin RV as it was not driven in winters. It lived in Florida for sometime and that’s why the paint/decals took quite a beating.
