Go to www.48standardoilpowerwagon.shutterfly.com to view over 375 photos of the truck. For sale here I have my very original and mostly complete 1948 Dodge Power Wagon Standard Oil hand crank wrecker tow truck project. When I was cleaning the truck out I found a Gimbels Standard Service Standard Oil ice scraper from Hazelton North Dakota in the worn out DS seat spring. I'm trying to confirm that the Gimbel station was a part of this trucks past.. The truck has a clear and current KS title that matches the serial plate inside the drivers door. BUY YOURSELF THE BADDEST CHRISTMAS PRESENT ON THE PLANET. The truck has limited rust in the removable part of the floors and the front inside corner of the PS door. All of the wood in the bed is long gone along with the tailgate that was most likely removed way back when the wrecker parts were installed. The truck was originally green but painted white when put into Standard Service. The truck has zero body filler in it and just a few small character bruises. The DS headlight and base is correct for a power wagon but the PS looks to be from a 37 Chevrolet truck. The truck has a factory mounted Braden winch on the front with a second front bumper mounted underneath. The tractor tire was mounted over both to complete the push bumper. There's also a chain that is bolted to the front of the PS frame for pulling vehicles out. This truck was drove into the yard of an old power wagon collector 30 years ago and shut off and never moved again until I recently purchased it from his estate. The 230 flathead 6 cylinder engine in the truck turns over easy by hand but I haven't messed with getting it running. The truck rolls and steers for transport. All of the tires aired up after 30 years outside but the tubes on the PS leak down over time. The truck has the rare rear mounted PTO but it is missing the rear shaft for it. This power wagon has the 8700 pound GVW so it should have a 5:83 to 1 gear ratio. I have the original set of 4 tire chains that came with the truck but the spare tire is missing. The hand crank wrecker boom assembly appears to be complete down to the chains they hooked on the vehicles they were towing. They must have pulled on something extremely heavy at some point and cracked the front of the cast iron base of the boom. The truck has a Ford spotlight with mirror mounted on the DS A pillar. The windshield still cranks in and out but it could use a good lubing up. The crank handle on the windshield is incorrect but it has the correct splines. I have an order in with Vintage Power Wagons for a good crank handle but they have been unable to come up with one. The windows on the doors go up and down but again could use some lubrication. The truck has a total of 9 lights on the roof and they are all in good condition.. The doors on the truck both open and close like new. The original paint on the dash and above the windshield is in decent shape and there is zero rot in the wiper panel. All of the original tags are present in the dash and the gauges are quite clean. I don't have a key for the truck and it looks like it was push button start. There is no headliner in the truck as it was torn up and came down. The seat is heavily worn on the DS only. There is no rot under the seat, in the rockers or cab corners. The worst rust in the truck is in the bolt in panels on the floor. You would be hard pressed to find a better Power Wagon project for the money and it most likely wouldn't have great history and parts that are on this truck. I'm only selling the truck to help fund the build of a new garage to store and work on more of my vehicles. The truck won't be sold for less than the starting bid and I'm not interested in trades. This would be a great addition to an old service station or petroliana collection. Or you could just get it driving and have the baddest truck in town. There's a $1000 non refundable deposit due within 48 hours of auctions end with full payment due in 7 days. All serious buyers are welcome.
