A Southern Lady's Story
This truck of course comes with a story - I can't prove most of it unless of course you want to come visit the North Georgia Mountains and meet the very real people in this story.
I came across this 1979 Dodge D100 while working as a county paramedic. The truck sat just off the road and blended in with the landscape. Along with it were several other old muscle cars with trees growing through them. As a young man I fell in love with the Lil Red Express Truck and also dreamed of the Warlock. It was at this point I went on a door knocking mission.
The original owner answered the door and told their D100's story - Born a silver Utiline equipped with a 225, 2bbl and a torqueflite - this old girl was sold locally in Habersham County Georgia and came home in 1979.
This truck spent its days on the farm, running back and forth the Habersham Hardware and going on fishing trips. At some point she received a repaint performed by the dealer as the factory paint began peeling.
In 2003 this little D100 took its last trip to the hardware store and did not restart. The owners towed her home and decide at 66,879 miles it was time for a new truck.
The pictures posted depict the day I found this truck in the Hills of Habersham, and show what I found after simply washing it.
This 1978 Dodge D100 is solid. The body is straight. The frame is straight. There is of course rust in areas these trucks are known for rust, however minimal. The drivers door corner is rusted through - most likely due to a blocked drain hole. The drivers side rocker panel is surprisingly intact, however the drivers floorpan has rust through in the area. Surface rust can be found throughout consistent with storing a vehicle outdoors, however in my opinion the truck is remarkable preserved - in my opinion - and is an excellent candidate for an Express or Warlock tribute.
Mechanical - folks I can't make this stuff up. I purchased this truck on the owner's word - "It ran fine - the tow truck driver thought it might be the starterâ€. I changed the oil and filter, hooked up a new battery, fed her fresh fuel, hit the starter solenoid with a hammer and Varoooom! My wife and I could not believe she ran and moved!
So here it is friends - a true Southern find percent for restoration, or preserve the patina a driver her as is. I know nothing more beyond what I have described. I have removed the old wooden bed, installed a new ignition lock, installed a new fuel pump, and the gas tank has some bad gas in it.
I had to pay up to get this car - some tell me I paid too much but this is not something you find all that often. I am selling because my wife is retiring and so we are "downsizingâ€. As we look at the next leg in our lives we have to decide what projects we can finish and what we need to pass on.
I hope someone will see the same thing in I did and give this truck a new life. Sold with Bill of Sale. I have in my possession documentation of previous owner.
