The car is quite obviously not like any other 1950 Dodge Coronet you will find. The level of attention paid to its careful restoration is obvious at first glance. In 1950 Dodge received a mild facelift from a completely new redesign in 1949 with the most obvious change being the new striking chrome grille consisting of 3 horizontal bars. It's zippy 6 cylinder engine was referred to the Dodge 'Get Away' engine for obvious reasons and the top-of-the-line model was the Coronet.
The original 230 6 cylinder engine is matched to the optional upgrade for 1950 of the 'Gyro-Matic' which incorporates a clutch for shifting the shift lever to two driving ranges, high and low and reverse; one engages the clutch and shifts to the up position to engage the first and second gears in the low range and one then engages the clutch again to shift down to the high range for the third and fourth gears. This unique tranmission operates as it should. The clutch is needed to change only between the low and high range. The fluid drive system allowed the driver to stop at a light or in traffic and remain in gear without depressing the clutch. The driver could, if not concerned with fast acceleration, drive the car all day long in high range, stopping and starting, without ever having to touch the clutch pedal or Gearshift lever unless faster acceleration or reversing was required. For this reason DeSotos and Dodges were favored by city cab companies from the mid Forties to early Fifties.
This particular car boasts the following recent mechanical work:
New tires

Machined Head
Engine Tune UpNew Thermostat

Please note that the previous owner had the heater core bypassed, most likely because it needs to be replaced. The electric clock and the factory engine temperature gauge do not work. A new after market temperature gauge has been installed under the dash to solve the temperature engine gauge issue. The radio works but does so intermittently. Its most likely very minor. Lastly, the tires are black wall tires in place of the original white walls and a new after-market aluminum radiator has been installed. The original radiator will be included with the car in case the winning bidder wants to have it repaired and reinstalled.
