The 1949 B Series trucks featured a high-visibility “pilot-house” cab The engine was shifted forward and the front axle moved back on the frame for better weight distribution, as well as a shorter wheelbase. The cab was mounted on rubber mounts for an improved ride. Another innovation for the time was the use of cross-steering arrangement, giving the trucks a tight turning radius. The cargo box space was increased over previous models.
Finished in a brilliant Red, this all steel body pickup shows extremely well. The restorer has tastefully incorporated a contrasting black finish to the bed, running boards and rear fenders. Newer trim is present, complete and displays a bright finish. The front grill has a brilliant finish and looks great. The front and rear black bumpers fit well and finish is great. The headlights and tail lights are very good condition with no hazing or cracking. Equipped with a recently restored Oak with stainless steel separating strips has an excellent fit and finish and adds to the over-all theme of the truck.
Inside the interior features a black vinyl bench seat which looks great. The door panels and dashboard are a continuation of the interior of the truck and look fantastic. The door panels incorporate the same color as the bench seat with the bonus of red trim. The headliner matches the same black vinyl. The black mat is in very good condition and the weather-stripping is excellent, with no signs of drying, tearing or shrinkage. All the original equipment gauges are well placed, have correct appearance as originally design, however, the temperature gauge is inoperable.
This ’49 Dodge pickup is equipped with a original 218cid Flat head 6 cylinder engine that is also very tidy and clean. Power is transferred to the wheels by a three-speed manual transmission. 16-inch original black steel wheels with Dodge chrome center hubs with 6.5×16 Power King tires.
The builder of this Dodge kept his design clean and simple, from the eye catching brilliant red exterior to the refinished oak in the bed, everything works together to make this one of the most handsome B series pickups we’ve ever seen… and set yourself apart from the sea of Chevys or Fords!… GET OUT AND DRIVE!
