1948 Chevrolet Fleetmaster Sport Coupe

I am selling a tastefully resto-modded, mechanically finished (less than 100 miles ago),great running and driving1948 Chevrolet Fleetmaster Sport Coupe (top-of-the-line in 1948) that is waiting for the body and interior to be completed just the way you want it. I'm the Ebay go-to guy for my family and friends and my father-in-law has asked me to sell it for him. It's been a total labor of love that he has invested almost $57k in over the last 15 years to build a new and improved version of a similar one he owned in the early 1950's. He's a very healthy and strong 88 years old but has lost his passion for the project so he's asked me to sell it for him. We hope it ends up with someone who will complete his vision (see last pic).
Below is a list of all the major goodies. He farmed out all the work over the years to the best builders in the area which is why his financial investment is so substantial (I have almost 2 inches thick worth of paperwork). Someone can buy a mechanically finished, period correct (with tasteful comfort and safety upgrades) hot rod for a fraction of what it would cost to build it to this standard. Before all these items were installed, the body was removed and the car was stripped down to the bare frame, sand blasted and reinforced to create a sturdy platform to build on.
Here we go in no particular order...
* Heidts Mustang II front end with power disc brakes* Currie Ford 9 inch rear end with power disc brakes* Rebuilt 1957 Chevy 235cid Blue Flame inline 6 with high-performance camshaft* New DUI HEI distributor* Heavy-duty Harrison radiator* Electric cooling fan* Offenhauser 1409 aluminum triple carb intake manifold with 3 Rochester carburetors* Rebuilt Powerglide transmission* New torque converter* Custom driveshaft (Powerglide to Ford 9" rear end)* Fenton split cast-iron shorty headers with 2" dual exhaust* Smithy glass pack mufflers with 3.5" chrome tips* Power steering with tilt/telescope and column shift* New Classic Instruments gauge set with quartz clock and 2 in 1 speedo and tach in 1948 style* Custom heavy-duty frame crossmember with rear shock absorber mounts* 215/75R-15 Goodyear white wall tires* Chrome hubcaps with single bar flippers up front* 1941 Buick fender skirts with custom fabricated spears* New front & rear blinker/brake/running lights* New period-correct fog lights* New period-correct L & R spotlights with GM script* New tinted windshield glass* Power window conversion kit* All side glass (can be used as a pattern), window mechanisms and new felt* Vintage Air Mark IV under dash air conditioning* Santa Fe auxiliary heater* 1996 Cadillac Eldorado black leather power front seats, rear seats and center console* New stainless steel body and rocker moldings* New chrome gravel shields* Optima battery mounted in trunk* New gas tank* Facet high performance electric fuel pump* New front and rear bumper wrap around wing tips* Custom painted dash* Copper vein powder-coated inside window frames* A lot more that is itemized in the paperwork
The front 2/3 of the exterior sheetmetal has been finished to factory original specs with no mods. All that needs finishing prior to paint is a portion of the rear quarter panels, rear fenders and trunk. A steel reinforcement plate has been added between the back seat and trunk along with a new trunk floor. Passenger compartment floorboards are original and rust free. Included but not installed are the Cadillac Eldorado seats and console. The dash and gauges are literally a work of art (see pics). Windows, bumpers, lights and rear fenders have been temporarily installed.
This is a beautiful hot rod built in the tradition of early 1950's lead sleds with modern upgrades to enhance drivability. And it was built to be driven. You'll notice chrome and unnecessary fluff is minimal underneath because the frame, undercarriage, suspension, brakes, steering, drive train, running gear, etc. have all been built with daily driver capability in mind. Again, our hope is it ends up with someone who will complete his vision.
