1957 Chevrolet Corvette Gasser Survivor
Word of the day! BARN FIND. It is the real deal. This car was my daily driver car from 1966 to 1969. Traded it to a local farm boy who put it away in his barn. The vette never moved from same spot for few months short of 50 years! I have kept an eye on this car its entire life. I know for a fact the 81,000 miles are correct. My wife was pregnant with my first daughter when we once drove this car. Don't know how she stood it! youth? When I got this car back the people handed me back the very title I handed to them some 50 years prior. Still in my name. I have got THAT title in hand.
The engine was put in the car back in the day. Never hooked up never started or moved. Engine from neighbors current year 1966 rollover corvette. 1966 vette was wrecked when it was just a few years old. The 1957 body is hit free. Never wrecked or repaired guaranteed!
Before leaving for summer camp in 1969 I left car at local body shop for a complete black paint job. Car still has that paint on it today. No body damage, EVER. Car was originally white when new. I remember it well as a kid.
The old boy here in town that was said to be first owner of car. Put the Ford straight axel under it back in about 1959. This car was a screamer and the talk of the town.
Since getting car back we have taken out the 1966 Corvette engine. Local machine ship went entirely through it. It was not bored out. Stock size pistons all are new in engine. Still used the metal valve cover on one side only that was on car. one of the corvette valve covers did not survive the rollover of the 1966 corvette. Motor was put back in and runs great with addition of a new carburetor. We used the 4 speed that came with car. 327 engine.
Interior. Hard to believe we cleaned insides good and used all of the interior that was in car. Very nice usable seats and door panels. The carpet was very dry kind of brittle. We threw it away and put in new carpet. New exhaust front to back. Brakes all gone through. all is well. Bottom of car is solid.
Tires are new. high dollar. American Classics. radial tires but designed to look like the old style bias tires. Less than 5,000 on tires and wheels.
the fella you see in photo who is working on car was a life long friend. He did a lot in helping me dig car out and bringing it back to life. He layed claim to it. He did all the driving of it to shows and cruise ins. My old 56 Cad. treats my 75 year old body better than the old vette does. Since his recent passing I have lost some interest in my vette so I guess I will test the waters.
Please try to come look at this survivor car if you can. It cost nothing to look. We also have a friend in the shipping business. Call him for a quote. Mcelley Transport Co. 831-840-3630 any questions please call me 812-584-4277 Gary Engine parts were all photographed while apart so as to verify all factory numbers fort the number nuts.
After a year of showing it dirty we did finally wash it. When left filthy it really drew a crowd. We have had tons of fun with it. Survivor cars seem to be highly respected. We are 15 min. from CVG (Cincinnati) airport. fly in visit, look see. We will pick you up from airport and drive you back NO PROBLEM! Thanks Gary
