Up for Sale is a 1956 Chevy BelAir, 4-time Classic Chevy International Platinum Award Winner in the Trailer Restored Jr and Sr Categories, and2-Time Bow Tie Chevys Gold Award Winner, also in the Trailered Restored Category.
An extensive frame-off, numbers matching, restoration completed in 1996 was done with the goal to return this car to original factory condition; which is the condition it existed as it rolled off the assembly line.Following restoration, this car spent its life as a Trailer Queen. This car currently exists as an Investment Grade in a Concourse category and #1 condition. This car is in Excellent condition that has been transported to shows in an enclosed trailer, and when not being shown, is stored in a climate-controlled facility. This car is not being driven. This car looks the same as it did following restoration twenty-two years ago.
The car was transported by an enclosed trailer to where it was entered in a number of National and International Class shows and was awarded the following Awards and Certificates:

In the fall of 2017 this car was being offered for sale out of a gentleman’s collection from the State of Georgia. After a personal viewing/inspection the car proved to be in an excellent #1 condition as described in the seller’s description. My initial intention was to purchase a show quality car that was a Driver as opposed to a Trailer Queen. Once viewed, itwas obvious that this car was not the car one would drive around in, which left me with a question to myself, “if I bought it would I be willing to drive it?”Despite the fact I had no idea as to what I was going to do with the car I consequently went ahead and made the purchase anyway.
I determined the following changes were needed in order to ensure this car would be dependable and could be safely drivenonly if required:
REPLACED TIRES – bias tires that came on the car contained no Date Code. Date Coding predates the Nineteen-Nineties making these tires at least 30 years old. Also, these tires have numerous flat spots, the results of being parked for extended periods of time.
However, the tires are great for Concourse showing as they show no signs of wear or decay and no signs of ever being used and not required to be driven. I replaced both tires and wheels with new Coker replacements.Replacing wheels was a matter of convenience. New tires and wheels came already mounted, aired-up and balanced.
REPLACED HEATER AND RADIATOR HOSE CLAMPS - original new or old clamps are notorious for leaking
REPLACED DUEL-IGNITION POINTS WITH ELECTRONIC IGNITION – notorious for constant adjustment
INSTALLED FAN SHROUD - Added fan shroud as Texas temperatures can be a challenge to vintage and classic cars in ensuring the cars operate at a reasonable operating temperature. No modification required.
Should the buyer favor the car in a #1 Condition over a Driver, then simply reverse the order of the above-mentioned changes by reinstalling the original tires and wheels, reinstalling original radiator and header hose clamps, reinstalling the original ignition points and removing the fan shroud. All the items that were replaced by those above will accompany the sale of the car.
REPAIRS/PREPERATION:
Tuned both carbs
Adjusted valves
Replaced both radiator and both heater hoses with show quality hoses
Replaced both valve cover cork gaskets
Replaced heater core
Turned/Trued brake drums
Following the above-mentioned repairs, I found it necessary to test drive the car in order to verify it operates as one would expect it to.The car ran very well, stopping straight with no brake pulling to either side and steered straight.Drive train performed very well with no unusual noises. The one and only thing I found to be wrong was the turn signals were not canceling after initiating a turn. Since the horns worked, then best guess is that the canceling mechanism was never installed during restoration. (It could have been inoperable, as long as it was a Trailer Queen). I am including with the sale of the car a new DANCHUK horn and turn signal canceling kits. I don’t have time, tools nor expertise to resolve this issue prior to listing on eBay. I am also including copies of the receipts detailing the work I had done, including tires and parts.
The test drive included a drive around the neighborhood on two occasions for a total of 24 miles. Despite living the life of a trailer queen for so long this Chevy is not only a beautiful thing to look at it performs as well as it looks.
SUMMARY:
My final decision to put this Chevy up for sell as a Trailer Queen, in an Investment Grade condition, and NOT turn it into a Driver, was the fact that I am not at all willing to drive it and I am not willing to purchase a trailer just to transport it to local and small shows that can’t offer anything that is capable of competing with this particular Chevy.
If you are looking for a beautiful Triple-Black 1956 Bel-Air Trailer Queen with 21 options and in #1 Condition, rated as Investment Grade, and winner of International Platinum and Gold Awards you may need to look no farther.Do your research and place your bid in accordance with what you would expect a car of this nature would cost and what you are willing to pay.
The number of pictures allowed by eBay is limited to 24.Should you need more pictures then contact me and I will arrange to see you get them. The 24 pictures you see are current.
NOTE: If you are not familiar with the value relationship between a 56 Bel Air and the factory Duel Quad Carbs with Bat Wing Air Filter system you might want to refer to the May /June 2018 copy of the Old Cars Report Price Guide, Page 24, half down the center column listed as 1956 Bel Air, V8, 2d HT, under #1 State of Condition. Keep in mind that the base price does not include the cost of any of the options offered in 1956, other than A/C adds10%; Power Pack adds 25%; and the Duel Quad System adds 100% of the listed value of the Old Cars Report Price Guide.
This car meets the #1 Condition criteria described in the above mentioned Old Cars Report as it is a 95-plus point show car that is transported to and from car shows in an enclosed trailer, and when not being shown, is stored in a climate-controlled facility and is not driven.
The factory duel quad carb and bat wing air filter system have played a major part in setting the price of the 1956 Chevys, just as the Fuel Injection has in the price of the 1957 Chevy.
I recommend you not use the price of the car as the basis in determining its condition. Not all cars of the same year, model and make that are claimed be an investment grade are really an investment grade nor are they priced the same. The only way to know the actual condition of a car listed as investment grade is to make sure you understand what it takes to be classified as an investment grade, then physically look the car over. This will make sure you know what you are buying.
