Description:
1959 Chevrolet El Camino El Camino
"ONCE IN A LIFETIME"...... Rare opportunity to own a piece of "TRUE" American Automotive History! This 1959 El Camino was built by "LEGENDARY" customizer Bill Hines, AKA..."The Leadslinger" from Lynwood, California. This was Bill Hines own personal car that we just purchased from Bills' son. We have a copy of the Californiatitle for authenticity.... Approximately only 2000 miles was ever racked up on the odometer after completion mostly because of its long running display (over a decade) for all enthusiasts to enjoy at Darryl Starbirds Rod & Custom Hall of Fame Museum. The car is a life long California car with the Cali one piece front & rear bumpers. Running a 283 cu in Chevy mated to a powerglide auto trans. Bill Hines custom touches include.... Power vent windows, Power seat, Power windows, with the interior stitched by master guru of interiors in the 60's - 70's.... Eddie Martinez! And of course his" FAMOUS CANDY APPLE RED PAINT".... lil history of the Leadslinger.....Bill Hines opened his first shop in Detroit in the early 50's and made an instant impact by winning "Best Custom" at the 1953 Detroit Autorama. He moved to California in 1958 to be closer to the West Coast scene but moved back to Detroit only Nine months later working with Alexander Brothers, Bill would do the custom paint refinishes and the brothers did the bodywork. The West Coast pull was too strong and Bill Hines moved back to Cali to work with George Barris of Barris Kustoms. He rented his own building and began doing side work as Bill Hines Kustom Auto, which he operated for over 2 1/2 decades. Bill would often take in sub contract work from Barris without anyone's knowledge. He was also known as the "Godfather of Hydraulics" for his early work in full Hydraulic systems.... Hines continued to be part of the Kustom scene quietly for many years until he made an appearance on Jesse James' Monster Garage. A whole new generation was introduced to the "Leadslingers" master workmanship....Like so many of our original automotive legends during the past year, Bill Hines quietly passed away May 20, 2016 at the age of 94, still working every day to the end.... Hines will be missed and we expect to see tributes far greater than any limelight the man received during his lifetime. He never sought out the spotlight, but now we expect the legend to get the long overdue credit that he deserved decades earlier..... Google "Bill Hines" and see tributes from AutoWeek to Hemmings.... to countless others! This truly is a "ONCE A LIFETIME" opportunity to own a rare piece of automotive history by the Kustom automotive legend. Runs and drives great but has been sitting since Bill untimely death so I would recommend a thoroughmechanical check over before any long distance travel, the body is incredible and only shows a couple small bubbles as seen in the posted photos. The paint is about 20 years old and is holding up but does show some wear in a few . I will be happy to answer any questions by TEXTING216-789-1647 or Emailing HOTROD5864@GMAIL.COM I am going to run this at NO RESERVE so please bid only if you are serious. Only an eBay terrorist would bid and not pay. Don't be an eBay terrorist.Vehicle Details:
