Description:
1955 Chevrolet Bel Air/150/210 Base Hardtop 2-Door
This is a 1955 Chevy Bel Air 2d HT, a true american icon. That being said, this car is not your average cruise night, coca cola signs, bubble gum, doo wop wave at your neighbour, low and slow kinda car. It is a car with tons of attitude and not much finish or shiny paint to speak off. The car was accordingly to what i've found out driven frequently on the streets until the mid 1980's. It was then painted in a dark blue metallic, and received lots of chrome, hood hinges, radiator support, glove box etcand a was updated with a new interior. The car seemingly has not been driven much since.
It was updated with a Speedway straight axle kit several years ago. The engine is a pretty wild sounding and healthy 350 cui Chevy small block . It has 10:1 compression, and a wild cam, Edelbrock aluminum intake and a 4 bbl Holley carb. double hump heads, vintage valve covers fenderwell headers, new exhaust with mufflers. (Not sure what else is inside the 350 cui, but it runs great, doesn't smoke, leak or make any weird noise.) The engine is hooked up to a 4 spd Muncie (1965-67) transmission, and a 1959 Oldsmobile rear axle, with 4:56 gears. New brakes all around.
The -55 is rolling on period perfect wheels, as it would have been in the mid to late 1960's gasser wars. Rader wheels up front, 15x4.5" with new 5.60x15" front runners. The rear wheels are vintage American Racing 15x10" with 8.5" wide new M&H Racemaster slicks.
Underneath, the car is solid, and never repaired. The trunk floor, floor pans, inner rocker panels and body mounts are all intact and not rusty at all. The body, and wheel wells is stock, nothing has been cut or modified. It appears to be a really solid body. The frame is in a great condition, stock in the rear, up front of course it is modified to accomodate the straight axle set up. The chrome and stainless is all there, and in a really good condition.
The interior is in a good condition, no tears, not dry or cracked. The seats are upholstered in the good old tuck'n'roll style as well as the rear oneswhile the front door panels are of a more simple fashion. The headliner is still in a good condition and has all the bows intact. The inside window trim has been chromed. The dash is uncut and still has the original radio. The Bel Air has a set of 4 vintage Stewart Warner gauges mounted under the dash in a cluster. There is a vintage SUN tachometer on the steering column, and the car has the iconic Hurst floor shifter. The glass is good, except the driver door glass that is cracked. The lights and blinkers are working on the car.
Please note that this is a car that has not been driven frequently for a long time. Since i got it, i updated it with new tires, and made some minor repairs. I have driven it around the block several times with no issues at all. But,i would suggest going through the whole car, before driving the hell out of it. Just for safety reasons.
The car has a CA title.
Here's a great opportunity to own a legendary 1955 Bel Air 2dHt with truck loads of attitude. A car that has not been butchered or destroyed. A fun car that can be used to have fun with.
