In the auto racing world teams are always looking for an advantage over their competitors in order to get the checkered flag and visit Victory Lane. To gain an edge in NASCAR, Chevrolet built the Monte Carlo Super Sport Aerocoupe to help cut through the slip stream better on the high banks of race tracks across the country. The special aerodynamic body on the limited production Aerocoupe SS increased down force during high speeds via the slick aero rear window and special "lay-down" rear spoiler. Built under option code Z16 in Pontiac, Michigan, this immaculate limited edition Aerocoupe is one of 6,052 ever built - which accounted for only 8% of total Monte Carlo production in 1987. Power comes via a 5.0 V8 producing 180 horsepower and is mated to the proven Hydra-Matic 4-Speed overdrive automatic transmission. The front suspension has unequal-length control arms and coil springs while the rear suspension sports a live axle with four trailing links and coil springs as well. Stopping the Aerocoupe are a set of power front disc brakes up front and drums on the rear. On the interior are comfortable bucket seats and a center console sporting the t-handle shifter. This hard-to-find Aerocoupe is in exceptional condition and has under 20,000 miles on its odometer making it a very collectible "survivor" Monte Carlo Super Sport and is ready for show or go.
