1949 CADILLAC SERIES 62 - REBUILT MOTOR WITH 80 MILES & MUCH MORE - FAMILY OWNED
1949 Cadillac Series 62
Repairs: (all within the last 80 miles) Rebuilt Motor (for specs, see repair spreadsheet) - New rear differential housing, Rear axle bearing (2), seals (2), and kit parts. New front brake shoes, hoses, linings and fittings. Also, points, condenser, plugs and coolant. Four new P215/75R15 Cooper Trendsetter whitewall tires. New water pump, drive belt, battery box, radiator hose and carburetor, crankshaft and torque converter gaskets. New muffler and tailpipe. Sway bar links replaced. Also, this motor was an historic event as it was the first overhead valve engine to go into production.
After I decided to sell the car, I tried to repair anything mechanical on the car that I noticed was sub-standard, the last thing was to replace the suspension steering links. My original order of restoration was mechanical, electrical, then cosmetic. The electrical wiring is probably the most urgent issue with the car in its present state. The trunk closes and latches, but I cannot find the key for it yet.
History: This car had been in my family for 70 years and has been garaged virtually every night since it was purchased. I painted her beige for my aunt in 1980 and this is the current color. I began to restore it as a retirement project in 2013, but due to recent unforeseen personal issues, I cannot continue the restoration.
When I painted this car and the only body damage repairs I noticed were on the rocker panel (corrosion is common in this area). But after almost 40 years there is little evidence of additional corrosion. The left-side driver's door has a small dent, but other than that the only body imperfections are minor. There are many paint chips on the passenger side as a result of being garaged next to the family car. But these are only cosmetic, the panels are not damaged. There is some chrome missing on the right rear quarter panel. This car has never been in a serious accident.
The interior is in fair condition. In the photos, the fraying seen on the seats is only a seat cover. There is some water staining on the front door panels and some seam failure in the rear seat.
The car is all original with no modifications other than the paint color.
See attached spreadsheet for repair history. Note: The repair station and total cost details have been removed but are available upon request.
I hope to find a conscientious buyer to restore this grand old lady to her original glory and care for her it as she is used to and bring joy to those as it has to me.
Thanks, Mike
