1972 Cadillac Coupe DeVille

You haven't experienced luxury until you've driven a full-sized Cadillac like this 1972 Cadillac Coupe DeVille. The term "It rides like a Cadillac," was coined because of these cars, whose hovercraft-like road manners deliver an entirely different level of smoothness and isolation than we're used to today. And you simply can't get more sheetmetal for your dollar than a '70s Cadillac, especially now that retro is cool again. This is one of those cars that gets attention simply because of its sheer size; there's just no disguising nearly nineteen feet of Cadillac coupe hammering down the road. It was repainted at some point in its original code 73 Cambridge Red, and it still looks quite good with a few minor signs of age but nothing that should stop you from heading out to the cruise night. It comes from a warm climate, which is always good news, and it's pretty obvious that it has been a cherished garage queen since being retired from daily duty. In 1972, this massive coupe was state-of-the-art in luxury cars and there's no question that when you showed up in this car, everyone knew you were a player. The code J white vinyl top is not unusual for the period and gives the car a very clean, dressed-up look that seems especially appealing today. OEM chrome was quite good in 1972, and thanks to a lifetime in the Texas sun, everything is still bright and shiny. The rear fender skirts come with the car as well but with the flashy tire/wheel package, they have been kept in the trunk. As you might imagine, there's enough space inside for this car to qualify as an addition on your home. Legroom is expansive in back, and the beautiful code 354 white leather upholstery is pure 1970s cool. The seat covers are new, so they're brilliantly white, but nothing looks too new or too deteriorated so it all fits together nicely. The wrap-around dash is not big on instrumentation, but almost everything was standard on this big coupe, including automatic climate control (which should be operational with a recharge), power windows, locks, and seat, plus an updated AM/FM/CD stereo system. Plush carpets make it feel serene inside and you'll feel coddled inside this luxury car in a way you've never before experienced. And as a 2-door, this sucker is massive, offering legroom that you'd almost need a limo to duplicate today. Even the trunk is nearly spotless, wearing gray mouse fur lining that's well-fitted and quite clean.Cadillac's goal with the powerplant was effortless cruising, and the mighty 472 cubic inch V8 delivers. One of the biggest production V8s ever built, torque is prodigious and it idles nearly silently, with a muscular undertone from the catalyst-free exhaust system. The engine runs extremely well, starting quickly, easily settling into a smooth idle, and pulling the 5000-pound Cadillac around with uncanny ease. The engine bay is pretty original with signs of recent maintenance, including new belts and hoses, although someone has added an HEI ignition system, which would become standard three years after this car was built. The TH400 3-speed automatic transmission shifts properly, and while it's a bit crusty underneath, the surface scale is all superficial and poses no problems for the new owner. A single exhaust system been fitted recently, and four 235/70/15 whitewall radials on real chrome wire spoke wheels give it a period look that's just too cool. You can now enjoy king-sized luxury at an economy car price with this lovely Coupe DeVille.
